2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

This year Love has a 16.1 PER and a 0.050 WS/48, plus is injured right now. Favors is 20.6 PER and 0.182 WS/48. I know you love three-point shooting, but there needs to be some standards.

For those touting Trevor Ariza, He's at 10.3 and 0.027, and too small to guard starting 4s on the top teams.

You can show me every stat in the world, but the truth is known = Favors and Gobert do not share the court together that much at all in the playoffs vs very good teams. They simply don't succeed so Quin doesn't play them together. When GS trots out KD at 4 and Draymond at 5, Favors sits. Or when they play Iggy at 4. Same thing.

I don't think Ariza is a great player, but he is classic 3D. Since we have Gobert, we can actually afford to play smaller than a lot of teams. Ariza could easily play the 4 for us.

But overall, I think we need more than Love. I think we need more than Ariza. Our issue is at PG. It's a guard/wing league. A stretch 4 would be nice, but we need better guard play.

Aaron Gordon is such a ridiculous athlete. I was really hoping that Jonathan Isaac would break out this year and Gordon would be the odd man out, especially with Vucevic playing so well, but that hasn't happened unfortunately.

Regarding Kevin Love... I don't think the front office will trade for him, but I do think they may make a move that sacrifices defense for more offense, which I don't think they would have done last year. We can't let the game pass us by like the Jacksonville Jaguars did this year. They haven't been able to win games scoring on defense and ground-and-pounding like they did last year. The game changed so much this season and the same thing seems to be happening in the NBA.

Ricky Rubio's last 10 games:

15.5 pts, 5.6 asts, 3.9 rebs, 1.5 stls, 46% FG, 41% from 3

That's nice and all, but how many turnovers? Do the first 13 games of the season not count? How many times does his guy go right past him?

Unless we had KD at PF, Rubio is not good enough to take us to the next level. That's not being mean. It's just a fact. Rubio is not elite at anything. In the NBA playoffs, contenders don't throw "pretty good all around players" out on the court. They put specialists on the floor.

They play together about 12 minutes per game, at the start of the first and third quarters.

Those are bench units. Sometimes Favors is on the bench, sometimes Gobert.

4s can combo forwards still post up 2s in this league. Ariza is not even as large as Crowder, who was abused in the post by Turner against Indiana.

Agreed.

I'm not saying we shouldn't upgrade at the position, just showing that he isn't necessarily the train wreck he's made out to be all of the time.

Holiday would be a home run imo. In fact I put him in a similar level to Beal.

If we could somehow get holiday and Niko then I would actually believe we would have a championship caliber roster. (As long as we didn't give up any of our core in the trade of course)

Agreed. If we could pull off anything even remotely close to this I'd be ecstatic.

Having Favors is better than not having Favors. However, I would much rather have Ariza or Love if I was about to play a 7 game series against any of the tough playoff teams. Ariza is a very good defender who can switch to anybody and he can shoot the 3. Love gives us some scoring and spacing.

I was talking about Rubio, but yeah, I'd love to move Favors for anyone with an actual outside game that has to be respected.

My hope is this - NOLA struggles and decides to cash in on Anthony Davis. If NOLA added Lonzo Ball as a main piece for AD, Jrue Holiday is expendable.

Jrue Holiday would be the absolute perfect compliment to what we are. He's a defense first PG. He can play some PG and some SG. He has scored 20ppg the last couple years and averages at least 6apg the last 7 seasons. If the guy played in a big market, he would be a star. He's that good.

The good news would be that there aren't many good teams out there looking for a PG. Sure NY, Orlando or Phoenix would love him, but they don't have the expirings that we do and those teams will not send their 1st's for Jrue.

I've been all over Jrue's jock since before he re-signed with NOLA. Total pipe-dream to get him, but it would be so dope if we did.

My bad. Yeah, Rubio is a decent PG to have for the season. He provides a calm leader on the court. I just don't think he's our guy for contention.

If we could make a run at Jrue and Mirotic, I would offer:

Favors, Rubio, Exum and our 2019 lottery protected 1st, and 2 2nd rounders
for
Jrue and Mirotic

Hell, I might even through in another lottery protected 1st in the future.

I'd do it, we would be so much more feared from an offensive standpoint.

LOL? Mirotic is a UFA after this season and you want to through all that away for a potential half a season rental? Good thing you're not Dennis

He generally has long slumps, but pretty long hot streaks when he gets going. Hopefully another week or two left in the hot streak.

Jrue Holiday is a 20ppg scorer and one of the best defensive point guards in the league. He is in his prime and is signed for the next three seasons. Giving up 2 expiring solid starters, somebody many around here says is an overpaid bust, and a non-lottery pick isn't that much. And even though Mirotic is expiring, we would still have him the rest of the year and have the inside route on keeping him long term. This roster is a contender:

PG Holiday
SG Mitchell
SF Ingles
PF Mirotic
C Gobert
Bench: Crowder, Korver, O'Neale, Neto, Niang, Udoh, Thabo, Bradley, Grayson

I agree that Rubio doesn't fill the "elite" point guard that everyone wants. However, he is a competitor with solid defense and I'd argue that he has elite basketball IQ. He's humble and I don't see him asking for, or expecting, a "brinks truck" level contract to resign with us. In my opinion, we only need 3 elite stars to move us into championship contention. With Rudy and Donovan already being elite, I'd say we should aim for another elite wing (hopefully with championship experience, but beggars can't be choosers).

I'd even ride with Jae and Rubio as our starting PF/PG long term if they stay on team friendly contracts. Then we could put all our assets in on a 3rd star to play along with Rubio, Mitchell, Crowder & Gobert. We could use draft picks and take chances on younger PG/PF's to help us long term while we invest heavily in our star SG, SF and C. I'd throw all of our money and efforts into Klay (unlikely, but my god would we be good), Beal, or someone of that caliber.

Can you imagine our starting lineup..
Rubio
Mitchell
Klay/Beal
Crowder
Gobert
