2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

He has produced the last two seasons. Until the 2nd round of the playoffs. When he sat. Because our opponent made it impossible for us to compete with an all world defense first center next to Favors.

If you honestly think we can win a title with Favors starting at PF next to Gobert, you need to take the time to watch contenders play. Favors is valuable as a 3rd big. He is a playoff liability at starting PF.

A big reason Favors also sat more was the Rubio injury. Needed more creation so minutes went down the line to guards like Burks and Exum. Something that came directly from Quin's mouth if I remember right.

Jazz starting 5 was one of the best in the regular season and playoffs last season.

Also, Jazz will greatly improve in the second half like they always have under Snyder in non tanking years. A lot of the trades suggested here are premature based on that.
Yes. We will improve. And yes, we won't get past the 2nd round if we can make it that far.

Due to value or fit, our core is Mitchell, Ingles, Gobert, Korver, O'Neale and Crowder. The other guys should be expendable for the right upgrades.

Yeah, I disagree with all of that.

I'm in favor of playing the players that produce. Favors is currently our second-best player in that regard. When he stops producing, I'll stop saying he has great value on this team.

I like to follow where the data leads, not some starry-eyed, amateur notion of what should be.
Favors may be better production wise individually than a lot of players. But you don't seem to take in to account fit and how the team as a whole plays. That stuff truly does matter.
Favors produces much better than Crowder and imo is the better player.
Yet why is the Rubio, Mitchell, Ingles, Crowder, gobert lineup so much more productive as a whole than the Rubio, Mitchell, Ingles, favors, gobert lineup over last year and this year? How could that be the case?

Also, small sample size, I think we are undefeated when Crowder starts and favors comes off the bench.

I'm in favor of playing players that make the team win the most often. Even if they are less productive individually.

But by that logic Favors should play over Gobert since the lineup of Rubio Mitchell Ingles Crowder and Favors is better than the one with Gobert.

Also in the playoffs our most used lineup was Rubio, Mitchell, Ingles, Favors, Gobert and it was +23. With Crowder and the same we were -12.8. So when it mattered Favors and Gobert were really good together despite Favors playing on 1 leg.

A lot of the reason Crowder looked so much better in our 5 man net rating is because we played much better in the second half. If you look at just the second half of the season the difference was not that big between favors and Crowder. Offense was actually better with Favors but the defense was better with Crowder.

Personally the solution to me is getting a PG that can shoot. Start Mitchell, Korver, Ingles, Favors, and Gobert and our two most productive players can play together. It only becomes an issue to have 3 guys who can't shoot the three well. And the reality is you only have Ingles that can really shoot well in the current lineup.

Last year our 5 best players according to PER are Gobert, Favors, Mitchell, Exum, and Sef. That lineup did very well and should have played more together.

This year Gobert and Favors are our best players by every advanced stat. The coach should work harder to make them for together by adjusting schemes and players around them. It's a big drop off to our next best player.

Favors is having the best season of his career. Which correlates to being the first time he has been healthy in a few seasons. Play him more and run more plays for him.

I think the favors/Harris debate is moot until the offseason, both guys are staying with their teams for now.

As of now, I still think we need another playmaker. Exum COULD be it if he plays like he did and stays within himself.

A reliable third big, one that can preferably score, should be on the list. We’re one major injury to gobert and/or favors from being in the lottery.

Our #1 need is a PG. Maybe Rubio or Exum starts playing better and solves that. We have until the trade deadline to see. If neither can step up by then we need to make a trade for either a really good pg or a PG that can shoot the 3, set up the offense, and not turn the ball over.

Next is nother All Star level player. But that's wishful thinking that we can land one or outbid for one without gutting our team too much.
