2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Post thread now.

No sense in keeping those ideas secret from DL.

Not enough time... plus I’ll have 300 replies talking about how I’m a moron and can’t see the potential he oozes.

Tony Jones mentioned that the Jazz are still high on him and he really doubts they’d look to move on...

Yeah, but, if we haven't seen anything consistent yet, and he's not getting time, this is CJ Miles 2.0. They can be as high as they want on him but it doesn't change the reality of where we're at with him. It's like my old Corolla that's sitting in front of our house. I'm still high on it, meaning I think it has value, but I'm currently not driving it and I'm also not actively trying to find another owner. It's also not likely at all that I pull it out again for use. But yeah, I'm high on it. I probably should be a lot more proactive in making a move to get it the hell off my curb.

Because Morris was drafted, not a free agent.

Oh... we didn’t have any picks in that draft and he was likely taken top 10 so no shot at him. (We had 29 and 42 and he was taken at like 50).

I’m merely saying we were clearly aware of him because we watched and acquired his teammates. Last year he was on a two way contract too. Not saying DL sucks or anything... there is more luck involved than I think front offices or fans are willing to admit.

Just wish we had him... he’d cure a lot of what hurts us at pg. I’ll even do a two for one... they can have Naz and Georges and we will take Morris.

You are DL... do you tell your wife she can’t have things she really wants and needs because you are keeping the powder dry? Have you told your kids to be patient and let the cake bake? How many times a day do you think about balance and hand pads?

Are you off the Niang train?

Just an update since Korver...

The Salary Cap for 2019-20 will be $109 million (up $7 million from this year). The luxury tax will be $134 million (up $8 million from this year). https://sports.yahoo.com/report-nba-sets-salary-cap-2019-20-2020-21-seasons-020033583.html

For 2019-20, we have the following contracts:
Gobert $25
Favors $16.9 (team option)
Ingles $12
Exum $9.6
Crowder $7.8
Korver $7.5 (non-guaranteed for $3.5)
Mitchell $3.6
Allen $2.5
Bradley $2
Neto $2 (team option)
Niang $1.6 (team option)
O'Neale $1.6 (team option)
Draft pick cap hold $2
TOTAL: $95 million (if we picked up all team options)

Rubio $22.5 cap hold
Thabo $6.8 cap hold
Udoh $4.4 cap hold

The most cap space we could possibly have available is $69 million if we sent all the team option guys packing and renounced all 4 unrestricted free agents. Realistically, I think we keep O'Neal and Korver for sure. That puts as at $75 before we decide on Favors, Neto, and Niang. A max deal for a majority of our targets is anywhere from around $28 to $33.

I’m with you btw. I’m more into thin slicing on decisions... I think more bad decisions are made by ignoring initial impressions and doing analysis paralysis. Prior to the year I had not seen enough to determine bust, great prospect, or other... but I’ve seen enough now to know he’s not a guy I think will come back to haunt us... Miles is a good example... Dante is an nba player but I think he’ll be average eventually and somewhat useful, but he will be someone you always want more from.

I would pull the **** out of that trigger.
Really? If you do that trade you can only have 17 million in cap-space after waiving Rubio and Korver.

Monk certainly has potential, but he hasnt really been good yet. I'm not sure Marvin actually makes the Jazz better. And I don't think the Hornets would give up a first round pick for this.

I can't quit Georges!

Monte is much better. I think Niang is fine, but outside of that initial 2 week stint at the beginning of the season he has only shot well in garbage time. I think he's a guy that could be more consistent if he had a consistent role and knew he wasn't going to get yanked the second he had a bad defensive possession or missed a shot. It is so tough to shoot well getting a 2-3 minute stint coming off the bench... I know because I have been that guy. It takes 2-3 trips up the floor to get your legs under you.

I will be the lone man on Niang Island!
But I would also trade him in a second for Morris Peninsula!

IDK, the Jazz can't get hit on every fringe prospect.

I'd rather have the pick than monk... I wonder if you could put Crowder in the deal, so they get off of some of Marvin's money but get a replacement... puts us back up in the 20ish M in space.

I wouldn't do the deal unless we got a first... Monk doesn't get me excited.

Gallo and Jabari have, essentially, the same contract, other than Gallo's is guaranteed for next year. In that sense, I don't see any more for Jabari as a move for Gallo would come first, and be much more likely to happen for Favors straight across, rather than Chicago wanting something besides expirings.

Trade Exum and Thabo to San Antonio for Mills and Bertans to help Pop beat the league without threes.
