Jazz will draft Chris Singleton at #12 if he is available

The Bobcats are said to be all over Chris Singleton with the ninth pick, but would take Marcus Morris if they’re stuck.

Jazz draft looks like it will be Knight/Singleton unless the Bobcats take Singleton at #9 (hopefully).

If the Bobcats do indeed go ahead and take Singleton at #9, my best guess on who the Jazz would draft at #12 is Jonas Valanciunas or Donatas Motiejunas. On draft night I hope the Jazz will come out with Knight/Valanciunas, Knight/Motiejunas, but if they do come out with Knight/Singleton I wouldn't be too upset, just think he wouldn't be BPA there.

I was listening to 1320 online today. Not sure if thats powerhouse, but anyone else hear them talking about rumors on espn about us moving to two? They mentioned it several times, but I was unable to find the article.

Singleton is a definite possibility. They spoke very well of him after the workout. From the Deseret News:

The 20-year-old thought he struggled. ("Everybody has their off days," he said.)Corbin thought he showed potential. ("I think his offense is capable of getting better and capable of being able to get him on the floor now, and he will get better as time goes on.")
Perrin was impressed. ("We weren't sure about his shooting because his shooting percentage in college — it wasn't bad, but it wasn't outstanding. But he shot it well.")


I think that bodes fairly well for taking him 12. And he sounds like a guy who just wants to work hard and get better. Not bad for someone already considered to be an elite defender. With Jefferson, Hayward, Millsap, and Harris (or Knight), that's plenty of offense. Singleton can concentrate in playing tough "d" and cutting to the hoop on offense. You know, kind of like we hoped AK would do, before he started to cry about not getting enough touches.



I'd be thrilled with a Knight/Singleton draft. I've been on that bandwagon for several weeks now. Love Jimmer, but I think his potential is backup PG and shooting specialist. Maybe he has an outside chance to start with a team like New York or Phoenix. However, I think Knight and Singleton can both develop into quality starters. Good thing is that we don't need them to start right away. Knight eases in behind Harris and Utah picks up CJ's option for another year.

There is just no way the jazz would make a guarantee at a spot like 12, especially in this draft. That would mean the jazz would think that singleton is the 4th best player in the draft, and that allmthe players projected to go in front of him, despite whether they fall or not are inferior players.

Multiple stations mentioned it I think. Talk of trading a player like Millsap or Harris for the 2. So Jazz would gain the 2nd pick AND keep the 3rd pick, but it would cost them Millsap.

Jimmy Butler > Chris Singleton

I posted this in another thread but then this one got started and it goes better here. I'm here to kill some of the buzz.

Chris Singleton is known as one of the best defenders in this draft class, but his offensive efficiency of .86 PPP leaves a lot to be desired, as it ranks 2nd worst in this group after Chris Wright.

Singleton's mediocre ball-handling skills seem to be the main culprit here. He turns the ball over at a fairly high rate, (14.2% of possessions), which ranks him 6th in this group.

He gets out in transition more than any prospect at 3 possessions per game, but ranks dead last in scoring efficiency in this category, at a dreadful .905 PPP.

Singelton would be well served cutting out the 1.5 pull-up jumpers he shoots every game at the next level, as he only makes 29% of these attempts.

In catch and shoot situations he's far more effective, making 43% of his attempts at 1.28 points per shot, the 4th best in this group.

Looking through the rest of this class of forwards, a few things stand out. First is how well Jimmy Butler seems to rank in virtually every category, starting with overall offensive efficiency (6th), and continuing with turnover rate (2nd best), free throw rate (2nd) and transition scoring (2nd). If he can improve his ability to make shots with his feet set (13th, 36% FG) he will likely carve out a long career for himself considering how staunch of a defender he is.

Haven't killed it for me, Bentley. Singleton has an elite skill: defense. Pair him with scorers like Harris, Jefferson and Millsap and all he needs to do is concentrate on defense and cut to the hoop and clean up the garbage on offense. I remember a certain 2nd-round pick of the Jazz who couldn't shoot outside of 6-8 ft. when he was drafted. He wasn't a great defender, but he was an elite rebounder. And he relentlessly worked on his shooting. I think Singleton can certainly develop a mid-range jumper. It's not that tough unless you have a permanently bent elbow and your ball rotation will never be right.

The Jazz needs to upgrade defensively. Favors and Singleton would be a terrific set of defensive-minded forwards. Their effort and attitude could spread.
