Jazz will draft Chris Singleton at #12 if he is available

The Jazz needs to upgrade defensively. Favors and Singleton would be a terrific set of defensive-minded forwards. Their effort and attitude could spread.

This is going to be needed too with AK likely on the way out.

They'd be a great size/speed combo as well. Singleton is fast. If Knight is the early target that's an awful lot of speed for a team not traditionally known for athleticism.

I think we need to be careful here. I used to really like Singleton. But I worry if his lack of offense will be a liability.

Anyone remember Kirk Snyder, AK, or Ronnie Brewer?

Next year's draft is full of wings that play both defense and can score offensively. Why not wait until next year to get ourselves the wing we want? Instead of someone who might be a good defender but already would be a liability on offense?

Perhaps his size and athletic ability are too much for us to pass on? Perhaps he has the toughness that Brewer and AK lacked? Perhaps he can develop a good offensive game? Perhaps he's a better spot up shooter than we think?

Last I checked, the Jazz sucked from anything other than a dunk or a Millsap jumper.

Singleton may turn out to be a good player. But I remember the exact same things being said about Ronnie Brewer folks... And we all know how that turned out...

Is Singleton really the best prospect at 12? Perhaps? Perhaps not...

Ronnie brewer was a legit NBA starter with elite athleticism, and had it no been for his injury my guess is he'd still be starting.

If the jazz can get a 3-5 year starting 2 guard at 12 in this draft they have to be thrilled, and it would be a phenomenal pick.

I don't think you can field a competitive playoff team without at least a couple great individual defenders. Tony Allen comes to mind. I'd rather have him than Korver, just to make an extreme comparison.

Anyways Singleton doesn't necessarily mean no wings next year. We gotta replace AK, CJ, and Bell at some point. Right?

Singleton would replace AK. Same type of player, great defense, limited on offense. Singleton focuses on position defense, while AK focuses on shot blocking. Jazz don't really improve losing AK and adding Singleton. Like replacing Boozer with Jefferson. Lateral move.

At #12, Singleton will be about the best the Jazz can do in terms of adding a frontcourt player.

Ronnie B was the best athlete in that draft and found his way in the jazz offense using his athleticism to the max. Singleton is a good athlete but I certainly wouldn't put him anywhere Brewer's league....I just don't feel like Singleton is a good fit at #12. I think there is some bust potential because while he is exciting defensively, will he be a elite defender? i doubt it, and we know his offensive game is really lacking.... Better to just try and Re-sign AK for cheap.

Agree - Ronnie Brewer shot 56%, 51%, and 49% as a starter for Utah while averaging 12-13 ppg. That's extremely difficult to do - whether you're a bad shooter or not.

My concern with Singleton is it's tough to project how great a defender he'll by year 2, because in the NBA it often takes awhile as players gain experience/reputation/savvy (like a Tony Allen and James Posey).

After reading all the mock drafts I've resigned to the fact that it's 80% likely that it will be:

Knight @ #3
Singleton @ #12

Both reaching..
Both filled our needs..

Exactly what KOC said he wouldn't do..

*sigh*

None of those players were elite defenders. Sorry AK too. AK was NEVER a complete elite defensive player.
Who knows if Singleton can really become an "elite defender" in the NBA, but if he did I could give a damn about his jump shot.

I was listening to 1320 online today. Not sure if thats powerhouse, but anyone else hear them talking about rumors on espn about us moving to two? They mentioned it several times, but I was unable to find the article.

I saw something about it on ESPN last night - said the Jazz want the #2 pick. And I doubt we take Singleton at 12.

I think Singleton could become a good shooter with the Jazz. I think his struggles are mainly when he puts the ball on the floor. I think he will be a good enough spot up shooter to be effective.
