Stupid Pet Peeves

My condolences. Seems like everyone is getting divorced lately. Add you and kicky to the list.

I'm not getting legally divorced unless she decides to do so, but I am no longer vowed to her. She doesn't seem to believe it yet but whatever.

Sorry to hear that man, and yes the divorce rate seem to be off the charts.

Open soda cans in the fridge. A little worse than that, take-out paper soda cups in the fridge.

OMG this. My daughter never drinks more than 3/4 of a can of soda. We started buying those smaller cans and they were perfect.

Not sleeping for a couple nights, partying a little too hard, and disappointing 3 girls in the same night.

Also wearing condoms for the first time in my life. Those things are terrible.

Welcome to my world Ron, you'll get used to it. Especially the disappointing women bit. Why am i always the one that has to perform?

Women. Had it too good for too long. (Says this knowing there are next to no women who post here so i'm pretty safe.)

I’d self-gratify the rest of my life before wearing condoms. **** those things.

Hence the extra "surprise".

But I agree with that sentiment completely. However the female condom is interesting.

I'm going to do a pre-emptive pet peeve.

We're one year away from 2020. Be ready, especially since it will be a major political campaign year, for people to use "2020 Vision" as a campaign slogan and for all the cool headlines at the end of 2020 saying "2020, in Hindsight."

Every two years I have to renew my electrician license. As part of that, I have to complete some continuing education hours. I’m totally fine with that, as we need to keep up to date on changes to the code and laws. We can do it online through state approved courses. That part that bugs the living hell out of me is that we have to spend a minimum amount of time doing it. For 16 hours, we have to spend 13 hours and 20 minutes in the course (doesn’t have to be continuous, but total) and get a minimum number of the “problems” correct. I don’t know what that number is, probably around 80-85%. It does not matter that I completed it the first time through with 97% in a little over 5 hours. I literally had to have my computer up with that website going for an additional 8 hours, changing which question I was “reviewing” every 15 minutes.

Have you considered calling DWS and speaking directly with the rule writer(s)? This is a regulation, not a statute, which means it went through a beaurocratic process instead of legislative. I read/skimmed through the rule when you first posted and didn't notice any reference to a federal requirement mandating a minimum number of hours, so this is probably some beaurocrats idea. I would call and ask the reasoning behind it, explain why it is unnecessary, or at minimum try to get an exemption for scoring 95% or something, plus a separate high score for the regulation changes during that period.

I was reminded of this because I am making rule change requests today. It's easier for me because I work with the people, but anyone can do the same.

Errors in close-captioning of TV shows, especially when it's not just an isolated error or two. I was watching some new show over the holidays and in the course of maybe 3 episodes there were probably 20-30 errors in the captioning. It was almost enough to make me stop watching the show.

When the third string is up to bat on New Year's Eve for the local countdown coverage - one of the local affiliates just could not get their audio to match the video - and it was all pretty pathetic anyhow.

What made it worse was the segments they were showing included a Rat Pack look-alike band playing in what seemed to be an empty theater and a Pierogi Drop Countdown from Pierogi Fest in Whiting, Indiana. (LINK)

Driving.

I log roughly 110 miles per day and have been doing so for almost a year. I didn’t mind at first, but I am getting so effing sick of driving. Traffic, idiotic drivers, cops, snow/ice, etc — I’ve had it.
