I'd say that depends on what you classify as "ill advised!" Just because a guy is wide open from 3 point land does not, in and of itself make it an "advised" shot! If he's a poor 3 point shooter than practically ANY 3 point shot for him is "ill-advised!"
Of course, if the shot clock is running down and a teammate throws him the ball with just a few ticks left on the 24 second clock then he has no choice but to chuck one up, generally speaking. If he's a fair 3 point shooter and there are 15 seconds left on the 24 second clock, even then a wide open 3 pointer might not be the best option! Reminds me of what Larry Brown once said on a sound bite directed at Allan Iverson as he was coming off the court from a time out. Larry said: "Allan! You see that shot you just took? We can get THAT shot ANYTIME we want! How about we show more patience and work for a better shot, huh?"
Mitchell has been taking "ill-advised" 3 point shots on a regular basis this year, and I suspect the coaches have told him so! Mitchell, right now is NOT a good 3 point shooter and he's taking them with way too much time left on the 24 second clock, and I doubt seriously that the coaches are happy about it and encouraging him to continue in his wayward course! Frankly, there are only about 3 guys that make "ill-advised" 3 pointers on a regular basis......and one of them is Steph Curry. You can figure out the other two.
I've been noticing in the box scores that the 3 point shooting from some games and team is atrocious! Enough to gag a magot!

I’m 99.99% sure you’re wrong here. The Jazz coaching staff has made no uncertain terms about it. They want Donovan shooting. Even when it’s been said certain shots may not be perfect shots to take, they don’t want him to not be aggressive. I actually think it’s quite the opposite. Quinn and the Jazz want guys taking 3’s and I’m pretty sure they want Donovan taking 6-8 a game, I think they’re actually asking him to do so. The thing is, you watch Donovan in warm ups and he barely misses a 3, he has a beautiful shot, and squares himself up amazingly. He’s always long on in-game shots. Also, fans complained the Jazz played too slow a season ago. Now they’ve tried speeding things up and some of you are complaining they’re taking shots too early. Truth is, fans will never be pleased. Donovan is doing what he’s being asked to do. Do you see him being sat? Do you see him getting less minutes? No. They are fine with rolling with Donovan. I truly don’t think, outside of 2-3 possessions a game, the Jazz or coaching staff have any issues with what he’s doing.

Kind of insane though for a second year guy to have that greenlight no conscience aspect to his game. I mean, could Donovan actually do anything to get less minutes? Just not sure this approach keeps him accountable.

Being aggressive is one thing! Being just plain stupid in your shot selection is another! If you think Mitchell is given "carte blanche" to take any and all 3 pointers he deems fit to take, then you off your rocker! Good shot selection is as important as any other aspect of winning basketball, as important as rebounding, defense and good passing! If you ask the Jazz coach if he would like to see Mitchells shot selection "improve" I guarantee you he would say "absolutely!"

Ladies, Bros, Brosettes... I'm worried about Donovan Mitchell.

He lost his stride from the end of the season last year. Multiple reasons for that, yeah, I know. But at what point do we stop making excuses for him?

I say we do it now.

That's not saying he's a bad player, nor is it saying he's not gonna make an all star game. How does the organization and fan base make him the killer he was at the mid point last season?

Our offense is designed to get open shots. When they come the players are instructed to take them. You never hear Snyder complaining about players missing open shots but you do hear him complain about not taking them. We need Donovan driving as well, although I would like to see him draw and kick a little more versus forcing a shot.

Yeah I think he looks for it too late and ends up getting caught in the air or throwing up a garbage shot. I'd also like him to shoot the 15 footer if it doesn't look like he can get all the way to the paint.

He seems to make up his mind too early sometimes or he doesn't have a counter or that there are 27 people in the paint. I just hope whatever it is that it gets figured out.
