What's new

Start Mitchell at the Point.

With the way Exum's been playing lately and the way Donovan has looked when playing point guard I really don't want to spend 14-16 million a year to bring Rubio back. That money could be better used elsewhere.

Just 10 games ago this statement would have been almost absurd.

For the record, I was adamant that DM not play pg, as I was afraid it would detract from his aggressiveness, but I see now I was wrong.
Yeah he's even more aggressive now with the ball in his hands more. He just sucks in so much defense too which is good for the team as other guys are more open and he's a really good passer.

He created a ton of wide open threes tonight.

Yup. Even Van Gundy was praising DM's passing as well. It really caught his eyes. He even said some of his passes should be counted as assists even though the receiver missed the shot I think because just how good the passing was.

This isn't rocket science. He's a very good ball handler and passer. And because of his scoring prowess, defenses have to commit to him leaving guys open- and he'll find them. The basketball gods finally forced Snyder's hand. Just wish those three dudes would miss about a month for sample size, so Snyder simply wouldn't be able to deny that Mitchell should be full time lead guard.

And my comment has less to do with a reaction to his performance tonight or the last game and more to do with just simple logic as i explained above based on what we've seen from his skillset over the last year.

I think it's like they've got Rubio for 1 more year, already paying for him, so they're kinda forced to use him. Remember that we got Rubio just before DM blew up last year.

I think the end of this season they'll re-assess and it'll be interesting to see what DL does with the roster next season.

Mitchell is a legit triple-threat player who can shoot off the bounce out to 28 feet. Putting the ball in his hands puts the most amount of pressure on the defense. I have no doubt that Mitchell could become as effective as Kyle Lowry or even Kemba Walker if he plays more as a PG. He just needs the reps.

That said, part of our problem has been Rubio's inconsistency. If Rubio could have good games more often, there wouldnt be a need to consider other options.

Not quite...

Exum is shooting 30.5% from 3's this year. O'Neal is shooting 38.6%. It's simple, I'd rather have a better 3pt shooter on the floor. Defensively I think they're pretty much comparable.

Also I'd much prefer DM having the ball in his hand more.

Dude clearly the Exum developing over the last month. Not the whole year. The one that gets to the rim at will. the one that can share the ball handling and share playmakihg duties. Royce is strictly a 3 and D guy

I just wanna see DM run the 1st unit with 4 shooters around him and run the offense through Exum/Favs PnR on 2nd unit.

Mitchell was a revelation last night. A mega star. Mitchell doesn't necessarily have to be our starting PG, but he needs to be in the role at least half of his minutes.

Last night taught me that we don't need a Rubio AND an Exum. In the future, we need one good PG option, Mitchell and emergency PG depth.

Rubio/Exum
Mitchell
Grayson
Neto type

That's all we need...

Starting next season, yes. He will struggle against more talented teams this year, but he's learning to slow down and let the game come to him at PG. Need to get a shooter in the lineup with him (Allen, maybe sign a SG) next year. This season will be a good opportunity to continue to learn and with Rubio out he will get extended minutes. Next season let Rubio go elsewhere, and Mitchell takes over at PG.
