What's new

2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

I took time last night and really looked into Porter and I am pretty satisfied we didn't pay a big price for him, especially at his salary. He's kinda meh and really wasn't part of any missing piece for us. I am more concerned that I was sucked into thinking that he was because I wanted the shiny new thing.

It is helpful to remind myself that 2 years ago, we were top 4 in the West determined by playoffs, then we lost our franchise cornerstone. The next year we were top 4 in the West determined by playoffs plugging a rookie into his slot. There is a good chance the front office knows what it is doing. I am also quite aware that we don't know half of what is going on.

I am also fully aware that our players, as a group, have earned the right to not be disrespected like they have been in this thread.

Jazz, still paying the price for past mistakes, just don't have many assets beyond the expirings. And when lack of assets is not the issue, they have to play against the ugly Utah narrative or their timing is somehow flawed (Lou Williams case)...
Starting to believe at some point they will have to go the rough path, parting ways with Rudy to obtain real assets to start filling the Mitchel timeline...
I really hope DL can do something big between now and the start of next season.

We all **** on a guy like Parker, but I'm not positive Kuzma is better than Parker. If Parker is available for a small contract next year, he's a better gamble than giving up legit assets for Kuzma.

Barnes too... gets dumped on but good shooter can score in iso and better defender than Kyle.

Kinda shocked we didn’t get in on that deal... would have thought Favs and a first is better than what they got but maybe they like Jackson and wanted the cap room they carved out this year...

I'm ok missing out on him. What I'm not ok on is securing Niko's bird rights and then deciding to pivot from our current roster in the summer then realizing "welp, on second thought, never mind, looks like we don't actually have any options to pivot."

Barnes is completely antithetical to how Utah plays offense. Ball stopper who can't pass. I don't even think its a selfish thing, like he just can't pass.

The Mavs fans in my group DM where praising the heavens when the trade came through.

Company man David Locke is going live at 1:30 EST through the deadline if anyone is interested.

Doubt that means anything either way but l imagine he'll being doing spin or damage control depending on what happens.

This will be the reason why we don't make any moves, trying to wait this out.

Get Niko.

Yeah. If the deal is Rubio, expirings, 1st and 2nd, leave it as is until Memphis pulls their head out of the buns and start pushing elsewhere. Utah still has plenty of ammo to make tweaks while still leaving the Conely offer on the table.

I'm sure Utah is capable of discussing other trades.

You're right. But I don't think they'll act on any deals as I get the feeling they've got tunnel vision.

Utah isnt going to trade a first for Mitotic, regardless of any outcome with Conley.

You're right. They won't. But perhaps they should.

There are fans on this site that think Rudy should come off the bench...

A little ball stopping wouldn’t be bad at times... there are times when the ball moves well and it results in us turning a spot Ingles three into a Ricky three or a turnover... ball movement is not the end... it’s the means... a good willing shooter would really help. Our offense is ummmmm pretty average/bad... so maybe changes would be a good thing.

If Memphis waits they are stupid asf. The deals will NOT be better at draft time. Teams will have plenty of younger and cheaper options waiting for them in trade/FA/draft. The best deals the Grizzlies can get for Conley and Gasol are the ones they are getting right now.

I don't think they should. If they want to spend a first on a 4 I think the target would be Saric. He has team control, 1 more cheap year, and more potential (IMO).

The question would be what happens to Favors in that scenario. I don't think you could make a Minnesota deal make sense. It' had to be Niang+1st for Saric then move Favors (or Crowder) in a separate deal.

We could use a trade exception and a pick for Saric. We would need to open a roster spot though.
