Do the Jazz develop prospects?

Would anyone care to guess how much Stockton played in his first two seasons?

Stockton wasn't a prospect that needed tons of experience like I am talking about.

18 minutes his first year.

23 his 2nd year.

I am not arguing how much you should play rookies. I am arguing how much you show play players with little experience but a lot of talent.

Read what I wrote. Never said Sloan didn't play rookies. I said Sloan doesn't play prospects. I even stated know the difference between the 2.

NBA ready players Sloan played. Not the players that needed experience.
I believe Millsap played in all 82 games as a rookie.

All this argument over minutes also assumes all players will play in all 82 games. That ain't gonna happen. Few players play in all 82. And most teams have 1-2 guys go down with significant injuries. Jazz can't count on Okur for any minutes. Kanter is extremely raw, as is Favors.

I'd say it's realistic to expect Jefferson to play 34 and Millsap to get 30. Let's say Favors gets 25. That leaves 7 mins for Kanter. Give him more by sliding Millsap to PF for 8 mins/per. If Okur can contribute, that's a bonus. But since it's his last season under contract, I wouldn't give him PT over anyone else. Use him if Favors or Kanter get into foul trouble. Use him if as the other bigs miss games with injuries. I'd even cut starter minutes on back-to-backs. There are ways to deal with a crowded situation for one season until the rotation sorts itself out.

I don't now about you, but I'm of the opinion that every rookie is a prospect that needs experience. The NBA is a completely different game, it's not easy for rookies to start playing 30 minutes a game and adapt well. Let the coaches do what the coaches do, have a little trust in them....geez man.

You are right all rookies need playing time. But prospects who are raw talent need a lot of playing time to actually learn the game. Wes Matthews and Millsap understood the game of basketball before they got into the league. The Jazz have always had a philosophy of raw players need to practice more and develop there game more than we can play them more minutes. When raw players like Favors need the exact opposite to learn the game.

Its because they played a lot of college ball. Guys like Dwight Howard, Amare, Favors, Kanter, Garnett etc etc.
Did not understand the little things you have to do to win. They only got by with talent. And the little techniques that every player needs to learn to stay in the league are learned in game situations not practice. And learning the speed of the game. And most of it just building up confidence while learning the physical aspect of it.

Guys that don't have much experience playing professional basketball need to keep playing because they are still developing there game. Some of them don't even know what kind of player they are yet. They need a consistent playing time other wise they sit on the bench and never improve upon what they already have or they never learn the techniques or game speed or even build enough confidence.

I have no reason to trust this organization with raw players or players that didn't have much experience coming into the NBA. And for good reason. They have never done it right before.

NBA ready guys fit in perfectly here. Huge difference between Favors and guys like Wes Matthews and Millsap.

We all saw how Millsap wore down last year. I think he should not play more than 25-30 mpg. I still think he should start though. Injuries will happen and guys will get extended minutes at some point during the season.
