PoS fan who harassed Westbrook

Westbrook’s reaction isn’t excusable but it’s certainly understandable. I didn’t have time this morning to post this but westbrook’s accusations of being called a racist epithet is definitely credible considering this guy had already set a precedent for these sorts of things.

Obviously, as more details came out clearly he was disgusting. “Get on your knees?” How does that help our team win? Smh

Maybe we should... like focus on cheering for our own team? Especially in games where they’re struggling to score? I’m not a fan of talking **** to other teams, especially when our team plays like ****.

Tony Jones' piece in the Athletic includes this: "A source told The Athletic the interaction started when the fan — later identified as Shane Keisel — asked Westbrook about icing his knees..." He also says the Jazz had significantly beefed up security around the Thunder bench, to try to stop something like this from happening.

It's really incredible to see. Some white people just can't imagine that other people might have a better understanding of certain things based on their daily lives in an apparently still pretty racist society.

More generally, people don't seem to understand how deeply ingrained racism and other tribalisms are in the human psyche, and the very real and profound effect they have on everyone's lives.

reading alot of statements in here makes me realize just how isolated/sheltered/ignorant (and I don't mean that necessarily in a negative way) alot of white people are (especially in a state like utah) when it comes to living in America as a black man.
Way too many people are uncomfortable talking about or even thinking about racism. It’s an incredible and willful ignorance given our nation’s history. Great writers are out there, more than able to educate and inform on what it means to live as a black man in America. “The Beautiful Struggle” or really anything by Ta-Nehisi Coates would be an excellent place to begin.

Brent Brown Toyota will be looking for a new manager soon if all these social media messages are true. That’s what happens when you live in an at will employment state.

Dude’s life has been turned upside in 24 hours. Keep making those bad choices, buddy.

RIP Jazz basketball.

Long long time ago in a different place I knew a guy with the same name as the "fan". He was an arrogant bully. Wonder if it is the same guy.

"We have his back," Gobert told ESPN. "As much as I like to compete against Russ -- and there's always a little trash talk between me and him -- as a human being, I feel for him and I understand his reaction.

"Those types of comments being made to any human being, whether it's a player or a fan in the stands or anyone, there's no room for that. Whatever is said to Russ is like it's being said to me, as a black man. Any fan in this arena represents the Jazz and the state of Utah and has to be held accountable. Like Donovan said, we're going to do our best with the Jazz and the great owners we have to make sure there's a great conversation between us and our community. I think it can be the start of something that opens people's minds and does a lot of good."

Gobert said he was also bothered when Westbrook was touched by a boy sitting courtside in Denver last month. Westbrook responded by briefly lecturing the boy and addressing his father and told reporters postgame that fans had "too much leeway," a point on which Gobert agrees.

"Sometimes it almost feels like a zoo," Gobert told ESPN. "People pay money to watch us and feel like they can touch us or do whatever they want. Because we make millions, we're just expected to shut up and take it. But they can't do whatever they want.

"It's really important that we hold those people accountable, because at the end of the day, those kids are the future of this country and the future of the world. We have to show them what's right."

Once again, I absolutely love Donovan Mitchell. This pretty much spot on about behavior at a basketball game.

I also want to add that he neither supported nor criticized Westbrook's behavior. I'm glad that he only addressed what his team, fanbase and organization could control.

I'm still very disappointed that Westbrook only got a slap on the wrist, but our front office did everything they could do to make this right.

i normally dislike Russ and find his pouting and mouthing off distasteful and a completely inappropriate. However is this stuff was being said i have no issue with his over the top reaction. If it took someone like him doing that to just put a stop to this then i am 100% fine with it, and giving him a minimal fine was the appropriate amount. As usual I think it's been handled very well by the NBA and the Jazz have also handled it well. Ugly stuff Still happens here at our football as well, hard to believe in this day and age.

Has anyone confirmed if that tweet was real? Is that the tweet(s) the guy is denying? It is Kinda wierd that it was made back in October, a day after a preseason against the Blazers and attacks Westbrook specifically. Almost like someone who knows nothing about the NBA made it (if it is fake) If I was to make a fake tweet I would look back on the jazz schedule and pick a day the jazz played the Thunder. If it isn't fake, this guy does has some strange hate for Westbrook.

Part of me wonders if this happens if our crowd was more diverse. I would hope all people would not be tolerant of this ugly behavior, but if we had a few black fans next to this guy would he be saying this stuff? I just don't know how a fan next to this guy didn't tell him to cool it. I've asked fans (at football primarily) to chill with some of the poor language and for the most part the oblige (usually because of kids).

The millers and organization were pure class and the timing of the news indicates they worked with league here. Good job by everyone managing a ****** situation. If FA choose terrible organizations like the Knicks over us because of a few idiot fans then I think they are missing the bigger opportunity.

Already the republican spin machine is making this political. 570 am radio right now with Rod Arquette is already spreading doubt over what the fan actually said and is now claiming that the “national media” is painting all jazz fans as racist.

However, the caller right now is giving him the business.

Rod is now blaming Westbrook, and just compared him to Rodman. He claims that he provokes a lot of reaction.

And now he just went to break.

Amazing. I would’ve never expected Utah’s conservative radio to discuss this issue. Let alone spin it into blaming Russell Westbrook and excusing that fan’s awful behavior.

Based on the stuff being dug up on the guy I think it is fair to think they are likely real. The Jazz say they have evidence that corroborates Westbrook's story. I believe them.

Keep bringing the political updates to the board

You are the most awful poster across 6 active boards I’ve ever experienced.
Your IQ must be under 40.

Dunno there's a pretty diverse population in Melbourne, continental european, asian but you still hear the odd racial slur. Last year someone threw a banana onto the field near an indigenous player. I've heard a couple of asian guys say some awfully racist things. I think it's a mix of factors. But there's certainly an element of sheltered white ppl that are responsible which will probably take a generation to change

So basically the consensus is that this dude is full of **** in saying “ice your knees”.

Certainly doesn’t give with his previous twitter comments. If those are him and it certainly looks that way.

I believe so, too. I just want the dude banned and Westbrook held accountable for his actions as well. Double-tech the butches.
