Its pretty silly to call yourself a conservative or liberal. If you are on one side or the other you are probably giving into propaganda too much and not researching and forming your own opinions.

There are 1000's of issues in the world. Each of those issues you can take one side or the other. Why would you always take one side?

The entire point of a political party is so that you can get your voice heard on the issue/s you care the most about and are willing to relent on the other issues you dont care about.

I disagree with roughly 75% of the Rebublican stance on issues. I also disagree with roughly 74% of the Democrats stance on issues.

I tend to side with Democrats because of a few issues that I care more about and think that the Republican platform has more issues that I am morally against and think are awful. The main one being that the Rebublican platform is still opposed to Gay Marriage. I dont like the Democrats stance on that either but its not as awful as the Republicans. The government should have no part in defining relationships and I should not have to pay them money and time by having a marriage certificate through them. The other one is that Republican platform still supports parents being able to force their kids into gay conversion therapy, which is find morally reprehensible. You might as well support parents being allowed to torture their kids. Until the Republicans change this I wont vote for a Republican. I mainly vote Libertarian, Independent, or Democrat.

There are other things I oppose from both Parties but not as big of a deal to me.

I agree with with most of what you said. I feel the same way. I still like to see you as a liberal though. I need a target to fight the ideas that I dont like from the left.

So you are opposed to gay conversion therapy and repulsed by it, but you are not opposed to teaching kids to choose their gender, and transition as a child? The left is teaching that. Why didnt you mention it?

Is teaching your kids to stay in a state of being able to reproduce worse than teaching the opposite of that? Is reproduction not important?

Well, yeah, I have no respect whatsoever for the Heartland Institute. (You can though, I don't care if you sing their praises from on high, that's your business). I know that in the 90's, they were the lackeys of the tobacco industry. They told people smoking in moderation was not harmful to one's health. (Their leader tried to wiggle out of that claim years later, until confronted with tapes of him making that claim). Second hand smoke was not harmful. I don't think those positions worked out well for them, but they still maintain what they call "the smoker's lounge" on their website.

But I think they were wrong then, and I think they are wrong now. Once the lackeys of the tobacco industry, now the lackey's of the fossil fuel industry. Now they are conducting a nation-wide effort to influence teachers and students. From my perspective, they're just a reactionary force servile to the fossil fuel industry. So I just cannot respect them at all. We shall see how history judges their efforts.

It seems to me that the climate alarmists are not interested in a debate. They don't seem to think there is any need to answer the sorts of questions brought up in that Heartland article. They are great questions, even if there is some reason to doubt the motives of Heartland. I would think that honest proponents of Global Warming would welcome and want to answer questions like those.

I am not a climate scientist, but there does exist a one stop website where those scientists who support the notion of human caused climate change do tackle the claims and objections of denialists, including the Heartland Institute, which is a formidable opponent of global warming. I look to that site to judge the denialist's claims. But, when I do, I do so as a non climate scientist, and can only do the best that I can do in understanding the arguments and the retorts. But, in the case of The Heartland Institute, I have no reason to trust them, but I've dug deep enough into their motivations, funding, etc., to feel that way.

I'm biased. I believe the so-called 97%. And I say that even knowing a little about the history of science, and how change occurs in science. American archaeologists, for instance, ostracized anyone who thought there were people in the Americas before the Clovis hunters. In that case, the overwhelming majority opinion was quite wrong. Another example is 18th century scientists laughing at, and dismissing, uneducated peasants who claimed stones fell from the sky. That overwhelmingly majority opinion was wrong. We now know those stones as meteorites. I can certainly find examples from the history of science where scientists did not really act like dispassionate scientists. In retrospect.

So, there are plenty of examples where majority opinion suppressed and attacked what were considered outlier opinions. As Thomas Kuhn pointed out in his seminal work, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, science sometimes advances "one funeral at a time". The old guard dies off, the new guard triumphs.

For those young enough, I say live long and prosper, and I hope they will live long enough to see who is right, and who is wrong. I wish I had my own youth back, but I don't envy today's youth, either, if the "alarmists" are proven right.

Dude. No.

I swear it seems like a lot of people here are living in a closet. I rail on leftist ideas because how prevalent they are becoming. There are a lot of stories out there how schools are trying to teach this to kids as young as kindergarteners.

This is a YouTube channel directed right at kids. Its a kids channel. Has 2.3 million subscribers. If you don't think they are out there trying to indoctrinate your kids. You are living in a closet. I could post dozens of more channels like this. I could post dozens of news stories about this. Its real bruh.

Being more aligned with the things Republicans are fighting for, what are your thoughts on universal health care? Just a flat rate like there is in Spain for instance, taken from everyone's salary in a set percentage. I find some stories of people going bankrupt here due to not being able to afford surgery quite incredible. Or paying a few grand for ambulance service, I mean seriously?

I've never had to do these acrobatics before, deciding whether if I should see a chiropractor, a physician or a neurosurgeon because going intrusive in my arm might cost me, my arm...

Have your ever heard the explanation that when it comes to healthcare (or any service really) you can create a system that should assure you of two of the following three items, but you cannot be assured of all three: universality, affordability, quality. The health care system we currently have in America is not doing a great job of assuring us of any of these, though for some people I think the quality is pretty high, and for those who fill their yearly deductible affordability is probably pretty good.

Of those three values the most important to me would be quality. Affordability is second in my mind because I'm a cold-hearted bastard who does not believe that health care is a right.

I never thought about this before, but that's a damn good prediction. It would be interesting to see a graph of people who identify as therapists starting in about 1950 to now. I'll bet it would go from near zero to close to one hell of a lot, especially if you include all forms of therapy. I wouldn't be stunned to see that number double every 10 to 20 years going forward. It might be even more interesting to see a graph of therapists as a percentage of the population.
