Some diversity would help

Actually SLC is pretty diverse, just not a lot of Blacks. Being in the military for over 30 years, I lived in many cities that did not have a fraction of the diversity that SLC does. Most of that diversity comes from Mormon immigrants coming from around the world, but the range of different people is nothing short of amazing for a city the size of SLC. That probably does appeal to the average NBA player though.

Salt Lake City is 75.1% white. The state is 93.3% white.

As a country, we are about 63.3% white.

That’s hardly diverse. They’re immigrants, yes, but still white Mormons predominantly.

It's diverse if the only major city you're comparing it to is Portland or Denver.

Utah has a fairly large polynesian population unfortunately they prefer football.

The whole Iosepa thing is racist AF. I'm not sure that's the only reason Utah has a big polynesian population, but holy crap times have changed.

Ogden and WVC are really the only major cities in Utah with diversity factors greater than the national average.

The other notable cities are almost entirely white. I was shocked when one of my black friends moved from Farmington up to Ogden and told me they were the only black person in their entire school, for basically all their childhood (1st - 12th). I never realized as a kid that Utah was so homogenous, because Ogden High School is actually pretty diverse (white students were the minority while I was there). Didn’t know it was a very isolated pocket in a state full of white people.

There will be a group of idiots in all areas of the world no matter where you go... But as a non American,..I'd have thought people would be more turned off over bible bashers over the racists...

This has certainly been my experience. On the the other side of the coin however, there are generally some really good people wherever you go also. If we'd all just practice the old golden rule our mothers taught us, things would be great. (For those who don't know the golden rule, It's do unto others as you'd have them do to you.) In the military I served with all different races, colors and creeds. Along with members of a diverse number of religions. There were good people and questionable people in every background but when we had a common goal in which we had to rely on each other it was generally a good experience. Too bad we all can't see past our own prejudices and work for a common goal of uniting our families, neighborhoods and country.
