Cole Aldrich stuffs Alec Burks

I see Burks has won the hearts of jazz fans already that we are going back and disputing clear blocks as fouls from his freshman year.

I agree, even being a big-time Burks homer and long time KU hater... that was a clean block... you win some, you lose some. The real story here is, that crossover was very nice. We now have a guard who can create their own shots at the rim and not afraid of contact. (Even if those shots sometimes get blocked.)

It looked clean to me. Just amazed that Cole Aldrich's name has been brought up. Ostertag Jr was never a happy subject with me. Glad we didn't draft him.

Sure looked like a foul to me, though the footage isn't exactly crystal clear. Aldrich's body just slammed into Burks. The block itself was clean but the contact below was not, and that will get whistled in the NBA (at least in most non-rookie instances).

Wow...Good Find Mr. Anti-tonic
Alec Burks got stuffed during college? He must really suck...why did we draft him?

I remember Mark Eaton blocking a shot by Michael Jordan once. What a loser that guy turned out to be...

As long as you get ball first there is incidental body contact aloud. If the body contact allowed the block, then it would have been a foul. The body contact happened after the block, and Burks extended his arm to attempt to clear space, creating more contact.

Just wanted to restate that the crossover was sick and that Burks was still just a Freshman at the time and Aldrich was a Junior if I remember right.
Oh and I was okay with no foul being called but when a player falls that hard the whistle does tend to get blown more often.

Cole did that a lot on college - he's even done it in the NBA. This should make some of you feel better:

See, this is what pisses me off.....OBVIOUSLY KOC doesn't have access to all the film out there on a guy and the NBA needs to do something about it. Are you telling me KOC would still have picked Burks if he knew that he got blocked once by Aldrich?

And shame on you, Alec Burks, for not being upfront about it in the interview process. **** this, I'm gonna get into fixed gear bikes now.....

Compares himself to a young Tracy McGrady and licks his lips like Kobe. **** KOC! What were you thinking?!

This is false. According to the rules, one can not impede the progress of an offensive player by using body contact. The only way technically that could have been a clean block would have been if the ball would have been the only thing touched, or he went straight up, which he didn't.

Incidental contact with the hand against an offensive player shall be ignored if it does not affect the player's speed, quickness, balance and/or rhythm. Yep, Cole's "incidental contact" didn't mess with his quickness, speed, balance or rhythm.

There's the rule book (ie letter of the law) and then there's how the rule is enforced and so I agree that unless it is an superstar that wont be called the majority of the time, except for the fact on how hard he landed after it then that usually will get the refs to call it.

I'm not mad there wasn't a foul called, I'm just not going to say it was a "clean" block. Just because you have all ball doesn't mean you can't foul.

Aldrich shouldn't have such a negative rep around here. The comparisons to Ostertag are unfair....wait, I'm having flashbacks to last year.

Still like both players though. Aldrich will be a solid pro...Burks could be special.

The crossover was nice, but I'm not sure what he was thinking when he tried to dunk on Aldrich. There was NO WAY he was going to get over him and dunk it. He only made it about 5 inches off the ground before getting stuffed. Should have pulled up for a short jumper.

Elite players take it strong to the hole. Plus, there should have been a foul called.

Booner, and others, say just take it hard to the hole, make the other guy make a great play to block it. That won't usually happen.

Also as has been stated Burks was just a Freshman at the time.
