Playoff Rotations

Also, who on Houston is going to guard DM? Tucker is a good defender but not nearly as good as Ariza laterally... I think he'd foul out...

Gordon? He will get lit up
Harden? I don't see that going well
CP? Let's put more stress on those old hammies

Ariza was a big deal for them last year... I wonder if they bring in Shumpert or Rivers to guard DM

I hope Kyle is available... I'm not sure I'm ready for playoff Grayson... but who knows.

I suspect even without Kyle it would be Neto, Ricky, Royce, Jae chewing up those rotation minutes.

it would take kyle going down + more injuries, a blowout, or completely incompetent play from rick/raul for grayson to sniff any minutes.

Gordon has decent strength and quickness.
I'm not gonna pretend like I know if he is a good defender or not though.

If the solution is to involve royce in the offense more and the screen game specifically then I agree.
But that would be uncharted territory for him.

He doesn't have the value as a roller, but most of those switch screens they set aren't that hard. He'd be fine.

Like maybe we put Favs on Capela and help on the PnR... have Rudy guard Tucker, but really play zone... have someone help the helper and make PJ Tucker beat us.
****ing this! Would be a great wrinkle. Go back and watch that Bucks-Rockets video I posted earlier, and think about Favors as the rim protector and Rudy as Giannis, basically covering two zones on the weak-corner while being ready to dash in and be the first helper on the strong-side. Could work really well.

I've got a pretty big LOVE for Favors right now. I wanna see him in the center of some schemes on both sides of the ball.

If we can hit a decent percentage of our open shots, we will win this opening game! Because no matter what defense they play or who is guarding who, the Jazz are going to get some great open shot looks and if converted, we will shoot a higher percentage than the Rockets! We revert back to hip hop ball and iso slop then they will blow us out and that's a fact! I have no qualms losing if we get beat by running our offense and missing wide open shots. I do have a serious problem if we are forcing shots and igniting their fast break with stupid one on one play calling, and abandoning our offensive schemes that have produced so well for us the past month or two! And Mitchell does NOT have to take control of this game and try to do too much, when an extra pass will do just fine!

Has anyone seen or heard anything about gobert ankle?
He rolled it pretty bad in that nuggets game but seemed to be ok. Just curious if anyone has heard anything.

from team website:

Saturday’s Utah Jazz Injury Report

Ricky Rubio — PROBABLE (right quad contusion)

Raul Neto — PROBABLE (left ankle soreness)

Kyle Korver — QUESTIONABLE (right knee soreness)

What do you think about the rockets sticking harden on Royce on the other end?
Would we be able to take advantage of hardens terrible defense? Royce doesn't set screens or get screens set for him much and I think putting harden in pick n rolls should be a priority.
Would harden not have to work much to guard Royce?

I definitely like the idea of Royce guarding harden but I don't know if I like it at the expense of us losing the opportunity to attack harden when on offense.

I also worry that Royce might foul too much (he is very physical and "handsy" defense) and get harden too the line early and often.

I don't have any better ideas though. I would just hope that the rockets wouldn't be able to stick harden on someone who doesn't initiate offense or get involved much in the screens and picks we set.

So you’re saying we start Royce and Rubio and bring Mitchell off the bench.

I like it.

Royce and Niang are going to have to pick up their 3PA to make up for Korver being out. I don't understand why Royce doesn't get more shot attempts. I know he is primarily focusing on D but we are going to need to get points from someone else to complement Mitchell/Rudy/Ingles/Favors. I don't have much confidence in Jae right now.

Good news is that niang has been playing at his peak for a good stretch now.
He goes into the playoffs strong. As does DM, Rudy, and Joe. Royce has been pretty good lately (all around) and so has thabo.
Gonna need jae to inpeove, favors to play like he was, and Ricky to be better than average. I don't worry about steady neto and his limited minutes at all.

I have always said, and mostly still believe, that our X-factors are Royce and jae taking and making outside shots. I feel that if they do that we win. Unfortunately Royce usually doesn't take enough and jae don't make enough. Hopefully they peak during the playoffs
