Utah Jazz 2018-19 Championship Bus CHOO CHOO

You could also say that stat could show 3 other things.
1.We are unlucky. In close games a lucky bounce can determine the winner or loser.
2. We don't have any superstar players that get the benefit of the whistle
3. Much like 2, we play in a small market and the team doesn't get favorable calls at the end of games. (For the conspiracy theorists out there)

When you beat teams by a lot of points, like the jazz often do, then those things don't come into play and you end up with a high point differential.

I dont think there is a ton of skill in games that come down to a final shot or two. It seems to be luck. Players still shoot their averages on shots at the end of games more or less. Some go in some dont. Most teams that are really good at winning close games wont be the next year and visa versa. We have been more on the unlucky end of those, except in the playoffs the last few years.

The Pythagorean is how games you should have won based on point differential. If you tend to win close games, you do better than your Pythagorean. If you tend to lose close games, you do worse. No predictions are involved.

As a young teams still on the rise, I am OK with our record vs. the Pythagorean. It means we'll get even better.
Exactly. It doesn't really mean anything except we tend to lose close games and/or when we win, we tend to win by blowouts more frequently than most teams.

Listened to Locke and DJ stat-out and break down Rockets vs Jazz. Painted a grim picture.

Anyone know when Summer League starts.

Yeah, I listened to Locke's podcast from yesterday morning (I think). He does not like the Jazz's chances. But I think he's overestimating the Rockets a bit and is too focused on how the Rockets' switching defense negates most of the Jazz' offense.

Yeah, doesn't pretty much everyone in the entire NBA run a switching defense now? Not much of a differentiator tbh.

I wanna see an aggressive Gobert on offense. When he gets the ball within four feet of the rim, I wanna see him attack. Enough with 11 shot nights. Take this ****ing series over. **** could take him to the next level.

Tell him to just try to destroy the rim every time he gets the ball that low and they will be forced to call fouls. Could be a series changing tactic.

Yes, you are correct but there are subtle variations. They let Locke and Boone watch practices and so he actually has picked up some of the nuances .

I think he said Rockets run a touch switch which only a couple other teams run. Jazz struggle against them .

The defender follows the screener rather than staying back. Defender might actually touch the screener all the way up to the point of screen.

I just want a competitive series that goes beyond five games. I don't think the Jazz will win this series, though if they do I'll be really ****ing happy, but I am tired of getting our asses handed to us in series we get bounced from the playoffs. I know that sounds like a trivial thing to get upset over but the last semi-competitive series the Jazz actually lost was in 2008 against the Lakers - over a decade ago. I really want a tough, bloody series even if the Jazz are unable to advance. Really, that's what I am looking for here. It's a bad draw but if this team is making the progress some suggest, it's a series that should be way more competitive than the **** show we saw last year. Even if the Jazz get bounced, if they can stay competitive and win at least a couple games, I'll feel the franchise is heading in a pretty favorable direction. If they go out and get swept, or lose 4-1, I'll be less inclined to buy the preseason hype come fall.

We didn’t have our starting point guard each of the last two years. That killed us.

Speaking of point guards, are we to assume that Dante is available for the playoffs or is he officially done? Wasn't sure how extensive his surgery recovery timeline would be and if it would be a possibility to play.
