If the Jazz really do think they want to bring Favors back, I think there's some real smoke to this Terry Rozier thing. I think it's pretty dang likely he ends up on the Jazz if they bring back Favors. Especially after he talks to Jae Crowder I'm sure.

Rozier has a huge chip on his shoulder now and can really get after it on defense. He's also tight with Mitchell. If that were to happen one huge caveat though IMO is the Jazz still have to find someway to also land a Mirotic, JaMychel Green, Jabari Parker, etc. that can stretch the floor from the 4 position.

Bruh you explained it as Utah would have a cap hit if he retired. You are the one taking the L. You can't spell Handlogten's Hero without the L, never forget.

Dan Clayton says the cap hit stays if he retires... Only way it comes off is under medical retirement. Would take a year and he doesn't have a medical issue. ​

13. Exactly what is included when computing total team salaries? What is cap room? What is a cap hold?
A team's cap room (referred to simply as "room" in the CBA) refers to its ability to sign players to free agent contracts. If a team is above the cap, then its room is limited to the exceptions it possesses. If the team is below the cap, then its room is how far it is below the cap when all salaries and cap holds are included. Cap holds are "placeholders" for players the team is expected to sign in the future. For example, a team is expected to sign its unsigned first round draft pick, so an amount is reserved for this signing in the form of a cap hold. A team $10 million below the cap with $4 million in cap holds therefore has $6 million in room. A team $5 million under the cap with $6 million in cap holds is not considered to be under the cap at all, and must use exceptions to sign players. The following are included in team salary:

• Salaries of all active and inactive players1, including likely bonuses.

Rozier's value depends on Donovan more than anyone else. What does he think of Rozier?

My fan opinion is that Rozier is a fantastic bulldog type we need at PG if we keep Donovan at SG. He could share PG with Exum to give us pretty damn good PG depth and defense. Rozier doesn't have to have the ball but he can attack and get streaky hot.

I would put Rozier about 7th or 8th on my list of targets, but I would love to have him if the others fall through.

Players make for bad GMs.

I think people who think Rozier is good are basing it largely on a really solid playoff run last year. The overwhelming evidence on the guy seems to indicate he is average. As a restricted guy I don't see us getting him on a bargain deal. I think Boston matches anything in the 4/40 realm... so the question with him is... is he worth 4/52-60+ that it will take to make them not match.... I'm not fully sure he's worth 4/40 so I'd be out.

With a more consistent role and starters minutes he could improve but it's really a guess and I'm not paying a premium to guess on a pg.

Like how much different is Langston Galloway (who we could likely trade for with no real assets going back) from Terry Rozier. Both pg types that don't create, play solid defense, and can make catch and shoot threes at an okay rate?

When Kyrie leaves Boston has no reason to not match anything that is a fair offer for Rozier... so if you really want him he may cost $15-20M by himself.

They have no reasonable way of using the cap to replace him if they lose him and will have a need to fill... they have no problem waiting guys out either. They will match almost anything unless it's crazy and will move him later if they need to.

For a variety of reason I wouldn't target him... if he was unrestricted then sure.

The smoke about Favs is concerning. He is a starter caliber center... but if you can't play him in that role he isn't worth $18m... if they guarantee his contract to get something in trade for him then awesome, but the narrative about wanting to keep him and forego addressing multiple other needs is dumb AF.

Backup center is the easiest need to fill in the league... you can get a quality piece on the cheap. Keeping Favors is not the best use of our assets and space. He's a great player and dude, but most teams aren't playing one guy who can't create or shoot... we want to roll with two? Getting a cost effective backup on a multi-year deal may be a better on court solution for multiple years that will allow us to address other needs in FA but DL can't freaking let go.
