What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

I guess you have trouble with reading comprehension. You too HH.

Rozier would be an option after we missed on other priorities. Sure I take Tobias, Kemba, Brogdon or Russell. But I choose to live in reality and with backup plans.

I would take 4 years of Rozier at the right cost than 2 years of Conley at $32+ or 4 years of Love at $30.

Rozier is worse than Rubio. May as well shoot ourselves in the mouth!!

So if Kyrie goes to LA. Kemba's only real options are the Knicks, us, or resigning with the hornets. I like our chances.

You are wrong... Hill was traded at the deadline during the year... trade deadline has past and tax/cap numbers are frozen for the past year now. We are technically not in a new league year (so we have no cap space yet) but you can't trade him at his $7.5M value... we went through this exact thing last year around the draft with Thabo, Jonas, and Epke… I'm not going to go back and litigate it this year.

One contract, JR Smith, has this ability because it was signed under the previous CBA rules.
Thabo, Udoh, and Jonas were team option guys. It was keep them or let them loose. This is different I'm pretty sure.

What is the point of the value of a nonguaranteed contract if it's only worth the guranteed amount?

It's likely that Kyrie ends up on one of the NY teams. Right now, the Lakers are such a mess, without a team president or a coach, that it would be a big risk for a player like Kemba to go there. The Lakers could miss the playoffs again this year, if they don't get their act together soon.

Blake Griffin would be a great get.

Sign Kemba, trade for Griffin!

Never mind that would be hard to do. We would have to waive everyone including favors to sign Kemba. So we would have to trade a bunch of players to match Griffin's salary. It would take Exum, Ingles, Korver, and Crowder to get that done. Which I would be okay with if we could keep Ingles somehow. Although maybe I am still okay with it...

Kemba
Mitchell
Royce
Griffin
Gobert

That is a mean lineup but not a lot of depth behind them. But we could fill it out with some good pickups using MLE.

Tobias Harris
someone in a trade (Mike Conley, Kevin Love)
Malcolm Brogdon

Those guys move the needle. Washed up guys and non-scorers don't. They are scraps.

If we're just going to kick rocks, take the league's SCRAPS, and not even going to try to field a contender, move the team to Seattle and stop wasting our time and money by preying on our hope.

I don't think the Jazz are in that place. Or at least I hope to god they aren't.
Exactly, I’d rather take a flyer on some second rounders than those scrubs.

All of those were non guaranteed deals not team options... I can promise you I’m right.

Some of you guys who think you know better than Donovan, Tony Jones and DL.

Players have traditionally been terrible GMs, tony jones himself goes back and forth on the guy, and DL has had plenty of misses I disagreed with at the time of the transaction... so no hondsight benefit bs...

You can disagree with a persons opinion on an individual player and it doesn’t mean you are smarter or think you know better... it’s simple data he’s a bad offensive player... flat out. Okay/good defensively... he is likely to be paid more than he is worth... thus I don’t want him.

After two years, why can we not put to bed the idea that all these guys are on player options, and why can’t we differentiate that from a non-guaranteed contract? We’ve discussed this plenty. I have no idea why this is still discussed here.

I’m so tired of it... but everyone who is wrong is pretty sure they are right... I’m just gonna let people be wrong from now on.

Also... we’ve had Favs on the trade market for like 2 straight years... we know what kind of trade value he has on a one year deal... clearly that asset has not netted something good... so maybe we can use that 18M in space to create a couple better assets... or maybe one or two players that could share meaningful minutes with our franchise cornerstones or in crunch time... I don’t know just a thought.

When is the soonest that Favors can be traded? Like if we decided to try and get Conley on draft night could we guarantee his contract and trade him then or do we have to wait until July?

So you can move the guarantee date if both parties agree... if we had a deal I don’t see why that could not happen... I don’t know how early you can move it though... it might have to be in next league year but that is a guess.

I’ve never seen a date moved up but the non guaranteed trade rule kicked in last year. I have seen players and teams move the date back a few times.

Rodney Hood beasting in the playoffs btw.

In a role that the Jazz are definitely lacking.

I’ve said it before... I’d be happy to have a reunion... DL I think said it when we traded him.

Portland doesn’t have bird rights... if the used MLE to keep him they’d be hardcapped and would be right around the hard cap number... also have Aminu, Curry, Kanter, Layman as free agents and all will likely get raises... layman maybe a minimum dude... so even if he lives it there he’d have to take a monster paycut to stay and he’s already delayed his payday once.

I’d throw 4/40ish out there for him.
