Tobias Harris

There are enough whispers to have a thread for the dude. Philly will hopefully be eliminated on Sunday. Jimmy Butler has been great and I'd be shocked if he wasn't offered the max from the Sixers. On the same note, I can't imagine Harris getting the max after a second round exit, and he didn't particularly assert himself in the playoffs or on the star studded team.

But you'd have to think he'd look amazing on the Jazz. And fills a huge need.

So cap experts: Is renouncing Favs and letting Rubio go enough to offer him a 4 year max? He is 26 years old, and fits our timeline and team just about perfectly.

If we have maxed out or cap room and now have Gobert Mitchell and Harris as the foundation pieces, how would you want to fill out the rest of the team?

MLE on a PG seems obvious, but I want to hear thoughts, and how the math works.

Also, no one is opposed to this scenario if it becomes available, right?

I'm certainly on board. I mean getting Harris is like a best case scenario dream come true type situation for the jazz imo.

I believe that Jazz going to have 28 mil of space in that case. Not sure if it's enough. Also no MLE in that case. Only Room Exception which is under 5 mil and only 2 year contract can be offered. Good luck signing any decent PG for that.

We already have one

Renouncing Favs + Rubio has to get us pretty close, close enough that we could maneuver around draft time to firmly get there before FA starts.

Favors is a really interesting piece; the deadline for exercising team options is about a week before FA opens. Can't imagine we hold onto him if we have a max-level target we feel likely to land, but the FO really values Favs. Gonna be interesting.

I'm merely responding to OP's post/question. Your one-liners aren't informative or funny. Try harder.
You said good luck signing a good pg. I said we already have one. I was responding to your post.

If it why this board cries for Kemba, Holiday or Conley ?

Mitch is a SG.
I wasn't talking about Mitchell though he would do just fine as a point guard.
The reason people want holiday, kemba or Conley is because getting more talent is always a good thing.

We have a good small forward, a good power forward, and a good center but I still have desire for guys like Durant, kahwi, embiid and jokic.

Just because you have a good point guard doesn't mean you wouldn't want more good point guards.

Bucks have bledsoe and brogdan for example. They are probably going to the NBA finals

I'd be looking at Darren Collison, Patrick Beverley, Alex Caruso, Tyreke Evans, Rodney Hood, or George Hill to take Rubio's minutes. I think we need a guy like Hood or Evans as our sixth man, with a starting backcourt of Mitchell/Royce.

I think we probably need at least one pure PG... but I also think that we could have Harris/Ingles/Mitchell as facilitators in a starting lineup and probably do just fine.

According to Tony Jones, several people around the NBA think that Jimmy Butler is going to sign with the Lakers.....assuming the Lakers don't get someone better. If the Sixers don't give the bag to Tobias, several sources say that he is interested in Utah.

So I'd say, for Tobias the Jazz are in his top 3 options, along with Philly and Brooklyn, but Philly would be considered the favorite.

Im not opposed to a pure point guard but they are kind of a thing of the past these days. Don't need them anymore.
Steph averages 5 assists per game
Harden averages 7.5 and isn't a pure point guard
Damian Lillard averages 6.9 assists and isn't a pure point guard.
Bledsoe averages 5.5 assists
Westbrook isn't really a pure point guard
There just aren't many pass first point guards anymore. The Chris Paul's if the NBA are disappearing.

so you want to give the MAX to a guy who didn't particularly assert himself in the playoffs. I know it doesn't mean he won't be better with the Jazz but I would certainly move cautiously with the MAX deal. At the right price I would love to sign him, but I don't consider him a star which is what the Jazz need.

I don't think that we stand a chance at getting him. But I'd certainly be on board if we did.

I think I asked this in another thread, but does anybody know the rules on the 5 year max contract? Could Philly offer a 5 year max to Tobias and Butler? are there rules that would prevent them from offering multiple 5 year max contracts in the same offseason?

I don't take much from that, Philly's half court offense is so ****ing weird with Simmons and Embiid. Butler is an 'alpha' (I would give him a max too, but that's not happening) so he'll ge this. But it makes perfect sense to me that Tobias is the odd man out on that team. He is a 20PPG efficient scorer, who can pass and rebound. Giving him the max isn't even a question, we know how this league works.

Obviously I'd rather give the max to Kawhi or Durant, but that's not an option. I think he'd be great in Quin's system and on this team. And if the playoffs has cooled some other suitors on him, all the better.

The Jazz can have the max without trading anyone.

I would be thrilled if we could sign Tobias with it.

I’m very interested in Alex Caruso, Patrick Beverly, and George Hill. One or more of them could probably be had for the room exception, but stretching Korver gets you about $6 million in cap, but I believe Korver has another two years in him and still worth what he’s making.

If they are losing Harris, wouldn't the Sixers like to get Favors? You can definitely play Embiid and Favors at the same time. We trades Favors (and smaller contracts?), stay within 9 mil of the cap, and keep the full MLE.
