What's new

Non jazz 2019 playoff discussion.

Annnnnddddd that’s why you don’t stand pat.

Toronto was awesome last year. They just ran into Cleveland, right? Had Lindsey been running things, he would’ve stood pat and rolled it back again. Without lebron in the conference, they’d easily win, right?

Time for us to get serious. No more keeping guys cuz they’re “nice” or “good system” guys.

We desperately need talent. Let’s get off our asses and make some deals!
Yup. If DL/new dude are serious they are going to have to take some sort of big gamble at some point very soon. Torontos gamble was huge but they are 4 wins away.

Without Durant, this could be a great series. Curry and Thompson vs. Lillard and McCollum. Kanter could really have some big games. GS is vulnerable inside. My money is on GS, but I guess I want Portland to win, even though that would give Kanter a ring.

If and i mean IF the blazers advance kanter is gona get his **** rocked by giannis, but o was shocked at how stupid nuggets where when kanter was in, they didnt put him into any PNR situations on defense. Like wtf was that. You bet your *** the warriors are going to cut his *** up despite them being vulneranle inside. Saw capella get his *** mopped by no real center.

I’m curious to see if they try to keep 4 max players. I think they’ll let one of Butler or Harris walk. Whichever it is, Jazz should have Mitchell in their ear at midnight. It’s clear that Utah needs more top end talent - even if it depletes the bench and messes with team chemistry a little.
Mitchell should be nowhere near these decisions.

from being 4 wins away

So Leonard passes up an opportunity to take a three, dribbles in to a contested 2pt shot and all of Canada celebrated?

Clearly they don't understand advance metrics and analytics.

There's a chance that DL has been biding his time for the GS Dynasty to break up, and that he finally goes all-in this summer. At least that's what I'm hoping has been the plan.

but Toronto did not make a huge gamble.

Yeah they did. They took a player that will be a UFA and who struggled to recover from a serious injury and missed most of the previous season. Not to mention the guy the traded away was best friends with their PG. trading for Kawhi was a huge gamble. The temptation to stand pat after lebron left the conference must have enormous.

Sixers simply don't have the funds to give essentially four max-level contracts. Embiid is in for the long-haul, Simmons is going to get a max deal next year so ultimately it's going to be up to if they prefer Harris or Butler.

My guess is Butler opts out of the ~$20M he'll make this year for a long-term deal. Harris will probably be the odd-man out and go get a contract on the open market. Unless Redick plans to take a dirt-cheap deal (unlikely as he's going to want his last contract to have stability), PHI is going to need to fill their bench with some cheap players on one year deals and go into 2020 with three max guys hoping that can take them over the edge.

KL is an UFA after next season so they did take a big chance on him leaving after 2 seasons.
He’s a UFA this year. They took a chance at one season, and they traded one of their franchise’s all-time greats on a multi-year deal and who loved being there to do it.

The move was great, but it took some real stones to do it.

Let's not forget that they fired a guy that won Coach of the Year and replaced him with a nerd that's never been a head coach or played basketball in any kind of serious way.
