What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

If we missed on primary targets there are a few guys on $10-12M deals that are intriguing fits to me. Would likely get a minor asset to take them on, but that would be a side benefit. A couple that I'd look at:

-Kelly Olynyk - Has been brought up before... He is Kevin Love light, but at his $11-12M per year you can play him primarily as a bench big. Doesn't give the rebounding Love does, but stretches the floor, passes, and can dribble into a post up.. so he can create a bit.

- Norman Powell - I think if Kawhi re-signed in Toronto Norman would be moved for nothing... if they lose Kawhi then they likely just keep him. Can play 2 or 3... improved his shooting percentages... pick and roll ball handling numbers look solid, drives look solid, 43% on catch and shoot threes. Is there something more there... he has 3/$30Mish left after this year, so even if he doesn't have anything more he is worth his contract if healthy. I'm intrigued.

- Tony Snell, but only if he comes with DJ Wilson... Bucks have a salary crunch coming... no picks they can use to offload salary. DJ Wilson looked promising in limited minutes, Tony Snell is a playable wing... just really overpaid.

these would be after other things completely broke down... but are options to use space once we have failed.

I've been on the Olynyk bandwagon for a while now. I think he's very attainable. If Favors did get picked up if we waived him or if he left because we waived him, Olynyk would be one of the first targets I'd look at. I think Miami will look to sell him because they want to buy big in 2020.

This is one we have agreed on... I think if we really wanted to we could do a Crowder #23 for Kelly and #13 swap around the draft. Waive Kyle and Neto if we needed the extra few million to get cap space. I think Kelly could play with Rudy and would allow us to go 5-out with a backup center... the defense will suffer, but he's not as bad of a defender as you would think... the advanced metrics on him are really positive... He's a flopper like Illyasova so those guys can get stops occasionally that way.

Olynyk is a really good fit. He's like Favors with worse defending but better shooting and playmaking ability.

Olynyk is part of my Justise Winslow plan. I think any play for him would happen in July. If we miss out on the big guys and we waive Favors who leaves, then we offer our cap space and either a 2020 1st or 2021 1st to Miami for Winslow ($13 million), Olynyk ($12 million) and one more player; we could also take Waiters ($12 million) or James Johnson ($15 million). I don't want Johnson, but if we had to take him, I wouldn't include a 1st. We could look for a 3rd team for Waiters if we didn't want him.

I think Winslow is a really good, comprehensive player. He's only 22 years old and has really blossomed the last couple years. He's not a "super star" type guy, but I think he could be a great robin to Donovan's batman.

For us, Winslow becomes a great addition at 3 or even small ball 4. He can even run the point and he has shot close to 40% from 3 the last couple years.

Signing Winslow and Rivers possibly solves our 3 point shooting problems. Korver retires, keep everybody else including Favors and Rubio. We will lead the league in dunks again next year along with the most productive pick and rolls and screens! Get a gem in the draft and we will see ya in the Conference finals next year!

Welp, y'all ready to get Conley around draft night?

You have to think that picking up Ja Morant and then trading Conley's massive contract for our pick + maybe another young piece like Exum/Allen/Bradley would be extremely appealing to Memphis.

I still think Memphis keeps Conley. With all their terrible contracts this year, they really don't have much to gain by dumping Conley during the draft. Boston owns Memphis' pick next year (top 6 protected). There is no reason to start Morant day 1.

I'm really interested to see what happens with New Orleans. Do they try to keep AD, or do they trade him and (probably) get #4 and other young pieces as well?
