What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

For the Favors truthers... what do you think Zubac will get on the open market? His per 36 numbers at age 21 are similar to Favs numbers last year. Would you offer him 3/30? 4/40? Why or why not?

Depends on what we got... I preferred to add Conley then fill in the roster gaps with the MLE and BAE. At this point there are too many hurdles to do that. If we had a mutual agreement to move up the guarantee date (which is tricky) and moved Exum in the deal and maybe Korver... then we'd have some marginal cap space or could get there very easily to sign someone like Niko.

At this point pitching those guys in free agency and then either waiving Favors to accommodate a signing is one of the most likely scenarios, but... they most likely scenario is that we strike out and guarantee his salary and then sign someone with the $10-13M we have left over. I don't see him coming in at a lower number. I think $18M in space has more value in a trade than Favs on a one year deal... so yeah I agree we should waive him if we didn't guarantee him and trade him.

We should know Memphis' intentions tonight. If they end up in the top 8, that means they will likely lose their pick next year to Boston (it's only top 6 protected next year). If that's the case, I see Memphis keeping Conley and trying to compete as best they can this next season. Now if somebody passes Memphis (if that happens please let it be Charlotte or Miami), Memphis will give their pick to Boston and they would probably sell Conley for cheap. With Parsons still getting paid stupid money, they are best served to tank and rebuild around JJJr.

As for Favors, I just think we have to waive him regardless. If he won't stay for market value ($12-14 million) over a few years, then let him go. I hate the idea of another season with him being a large expiring and we don't have the stones to cash in on his large expiring deal. Either commit to him and he commits to us, or let's part ways.

Okay, so the top tier free agents or two overpaid injury prone guys.

Well, I don't think we will get a top tier and don't think we should take on Love or Conley. I would rather keep Favors at 1/3 the cost of Conley or Love.

I'd rather Utah not make the playoffs than pose meaninglessly in the first round again. One step back, two steps forward >>>>> stagnation, waiting for two or three steps back.

Let's also mention Favors is in decline. Having him as your offseason is a complete failure.

Nobody in this entire forum said that Favors would be the crown jewel of free agency. If pick up his $18 million option, we still have a ton of money. We have even more if Korver likely retires.

If we miss on big free agents and decide to bring back Favors on a more team friendly deal, it's logical.

No they wouldnt, and it's only logical to fans who want to hold hands singing kumbaya around the campfire, telling each other "golly gee, I really love this group of young men". If thats what I wanted out of sports I'd put on an old lady wig and go sit in the rafters of some local high school team. Golly gee, what fine young men!

Signing Favors is not a winning move. You are selling mediocracy maintenance. No thanks.
