What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

It definitely seems Conely to the Jazz is much more likely now, which is definitely a good thing.

I still think Memphis keeps Conley. With all their terrible contracts this year, they really don't have much to gain by dumping Conley during the draft. Boston owns Memphis' pick next year (top 6 protected). There is no reason to start Morant day 1.

Why? They have a replacement... it isn’t all about draft position for them next year good or bad... they added Morant so they got another top talent... we learned tonight that tanking is now less effective. If they keep Conley this year he has a player option next year but in an empty FA market he could opt out and sign a 2/50 somewhere he wants to be. If he plays well and is healthy he has options.

If he gets hurt or sucks he opts in and they can’t use that cap for other stuff... so basically they trade him now or at the deadline or lose him for nothing... get something for him and move on.

Ya, ok!! Let’s do that!! But is that a big enough haul to get it done? I’m sure some other team could easily out bid that.

They can but will they? I could see Boston jumping in to replace Kyrie and giving up assets, but what contract do they use?

Maybe Phoenix? Not on the same timeline as those guys.

Lakers if they miss on others?

Indiana? Maybe

Orlando could have a good trade package.

Memphis is going to keep Conley. I think their luck in the lottery makes it more likely they keep him. Sure, Morant is a PG, but he's a rookie. And JJJr is still young and raw. There is no reason to trade the team's only quality leader in order to get a late first round pick. The Griz cap situation is screwed anyway due to Parsons. They should groom Morant, win some games, and then just ride out Conley's deal. #23 and expirings isn't worth trading his experience and leadership.

One issue here is most teams have plenty good-enough PGs for their rosters, and Conley isn’t young, cheap, or going to play another position.
