What's new

Non jazz 2019 playoff discussion.

AB was another guy we zeroed in on too early imo… Locke was singing his praises for a while pre-draft. I think when Kawhi slid on draft night (was projected as high as #7) we should have pivoted but weren't nimble enough. It wasn't crazy at the time... at least we didn't take Jimmer over Klay and Kawhi.

I saw kahwi as high as #4 and Burks as high as #6.
What a weird draft though.
Derrick Williams went 2. I don't even know where he is now or if he plays.
Jan vessley went 6. Not in NBA.
Bismack byombo went 7. Sucks.
Brandon night 8th. Is he playing anymore? Where is he?
Jimmer 10th. Non NBA player
Chris Singleton 18th. I remember rumors we would take him lololol.

Just a crap draft.

And really, what the jazz liked about Burks translated to the NBA. He was a good rebounder in the NBA. Got to the line at a really good rate. Could handle the ball enough that he played some point guard.
His usage, touches, shot attempts, and minutes were never like they were in college though.
And his poor defense and lack of outside shooting showed up. (Those issues existed in college though too). They kind of got the guy they thought they were getting but never really used him like he was used in college.

Just never all came together for him. Fuggin Paul Pierce cheap shot didn't help... I hate that *** clown.

Fwiw:
Alec Burks stats as a 19 year old sophomore at Colorado:
31 minutes per game. 47% from the field. 30% from 3. 8 free throw attempts per game (83%). 6.5 rebounds per game. 2.9 assists per game. 2.6 turnovers per game. 21 points per game.

Kahwi Leonard start as a 19 year old sophomore at San Diego State:
33 minutes per game. 44% from the field. 29% from 3. 4 free throw attempts per game (76%). 10.6 rebounds per game. 2.5 assists per game. 2.1 turnovers per game. 15.5 points per game.

Looking at college production it's not crazy for a gm to take Burks ahead of kahwi.

Kawhi's physical tools and ability to play lockdown defense was most intriguing at that time. He was not projected to be a scorer he is now but he had DPOY and all NBA defensive team written all over him.

It's important to note that Alec began his pro career under the guidance of Tyrone Corbin. Kawhi began his under Pops and Duncan. Who knows where they would be today if there roles were reversed.
Are you blaming Corbin for infecting Burks with lowbasketballIQitis?

Would Burks have been the goof that he is if he started in San Antonio?

Would Kawhi be the killer that he is today if he started under Corbin?

Answer to both - No, not so much.
lol, are you kidding me? No coach would have ruined Kawhi. And I seriously doubt Burks would be any better under Pop.

It was not a crap draft at all. It was actually a better than average one.

Kyrie Irving
Kemba Walker
Klay Thompson
Kawhi Leonard
Tobias Harris
Nikola Vucevic
Nikola Mirotic
Jimmy Butler

Anyway, have the Warriors won it yet? I'm going to be sad if the Raptors advance, they will get steam-rolled.
