First, this is a promotional picture of the ship's XO (Executive Officer, aka second in command, he's on the right) and the ship's Command Master Chief (The highest ranking enlisted person on the ship, who acts as the voice of the enlisted sailors directly to the ship's top officers). They are engaged in what is called a FOD Walkdown. FOD stands for "foreign object debris" and it is a threat to the jet engines of the aircraft that operate off the flight deck they are walking across.

Again, this is a promotional photograph.

Is it just me or do these two creep you the **** out?

First, they are not engaged in an honest FOD walkdown. To do so requires diligent looking at the damn deck, possibly to find objects that could be sucked into jet engines and cause serious damage. These two look like they might want to have a go at each other in the romantic sense.

But more than that, I look at this picture and see one of the highest ranking officers and the highest ranking enlisted person and worry for the welfare of the enlisted people serving aboard that ship. I see two people who could give a **** less about the "little people" they are responsible for. I know it's just a picture, but this is a picture that makes me incredibly uneasy.

What do the rest of you see?

Two men who appear to be cuffed.
Yeah, they are in "parade rest" posture.

Which is a very formal posture. One that is often used for disciplinary purposes.

Any enlisted person has had to hold parade rest for many hours at a time during boot camp. It is a submissive position that becomes very uncomfortable quickly.

When being disciplined enlisted people must stand at parade rest while waiting to be reprimanded. It is often referred to as "standing by, to stand by." That's a phrase any Navy sailor would know but might not make a lot of sense to people who have not served in the Navy. It means that you are waiting to be punished, but that you will have to wait again before receiving an actual audience with the person who will pass judgement.

The fact that both these men perform a FOD walkdown while in essentially parade rest tells of their absolute uncomfortableness in this situation. Neither is at ease. Neither is happy. The picture is straight BS. The smiles are fake as ****.

That's what creeps me out. They couldn't even compose themselves to have a real photo taken. They are beyond uncomfortable. That photo is 1000% garbage.

I see that you have too much time on your hands and an overactive imagination.

Aren’t all promotional photographs? Relax. Have a warm glass of milk or something.

I see two people who were told what to do and how to stand and to act like they’re best buds. Anyone who looks at that photo knows they’re posing.
Having never been in the Navy, I don’t see how that would reflect negatively on the ship or the personnel.

I didn't see any of that. It's very educational to look through another person's eyes.

I did didnt see that either. And yes its very educational.

To me this tellls me just how judgmental and over reactionary Bulletproof is, and unable to understand that things need context to give a rational opinion on. Nick Sandman anyone?

I was like 80% sure he was going to go with something about the black guy in the background being not as important as the white guys in the front. So I think that is telling about what Ive come to expect from the political left.

It's going to be a long summer when the OP tries to get riled up over yet another nothing burger. Holy cow dude, put the pipe down already.

I think by pipe you mean alcohol.

I could be wrong, but seems like BP has been on a binge as of late.

Im sure these guys would just love to hear that a fellow officer would place such harsh judgment on them for awkwardly smiling for a picture. God forbid they do whatever the hell they are doing that is so wrong.

Im really, this is disgusting to place this on them.

Is it a promotional picture or a FOD walkdown?

Promotional picture= fake, not real, acting, like CNN

FOD walkdown = real life take is serious. Probably wouldn't look anything like what you see.

Perspective. Get a grip dumb ***. Put down the bottle and the pipe. Take a break or something for you have nervous breakdown.
