What Do We Do if we get no big name tree agents?

If we can't sign top FAs then we need to trade for them, so if we miss on big FAs we could tank the crap out of the first half of the season so that our draft pick is in the lottery at the trade deadline (I think picks are going to be over-valued because of the last draft lottery). Then at the trade deadline we could actually have a shot at trading for an impact player. After the trade deadline, we try and make the 8 seed and even if we can't make it we are finally able to compete the following year.

I personally would be excited to watch a tanking team focused on development with DM getting PG reps, Allen playing 20 a night, and Royce working as a PF.

That's never going to happen. No way in hell the Jazz are going to tank half a season away.

Gobert can get 5/247.32.

Right now, Wiggins makes 25.5M in the first year of his new contract which I believe is a max. So let’s say in year one of Donovan’s max, he earns 27M.

So in 2021-2022, Gobert’s first of his supermax of around 44M (ballpark), Donovan’s first in his new deal at about 27M, and Harris’ third year in his max which would be around 32M, the Jazz would have 103M committed to three players.

Are the Jazz really gonna do that?

The following year, we’d be at about 110M for those three guys.

I like what he provides on and off the court. Is he as necessary with Randle here? No. However, I'm not sold on Gobert on a supermax. If we re-sign Favors on a long term affordable deal and we decide to move Gobert instead of overpay him, we will be glad we kept Favors.

I’m not a cap expert or anything, and you’re probably right, but other teams are doing it, hell I’ve heard the 76ers want to keep all 4 of there guys beyond Simmons rookie deal, so why can’t the jazz have three max guys?

I'm not looking forward to the idea that Gobert is paid the supermax. I however know that there's two years between now and then, we have a very good team NOW, and we won't get equal value on a trade from Gobert anyway. He is the heart and soul of the team, and he's a great player (otherwise he wouldn't qualify for his deal). Furthermore, once Donovan is paid, this team will be capped out and Gobert will be eating space between that and the LT, and the Jazz would be lucky to have the players that would push them above the LT (provided they're not blowing serious money on more Exums).

Lastly and perhaps most importantly: we don't know that he will demand that contract. He might if we don't make serious moves to improve.

There is no can to kick after this off-season. If we're trading away the franchise, we might as well go full rebuild.

I would much rather let everyone walk, keep Korver (if he's going to play) and trade a 1st for Conley and absorb that contract if we strike out on serious players. That quarter is better than your collection of dimes.

A team is lucky to have a real big 3 and that is still well below the cap. The answer is likely yes. I am also not convinced that Gobert will demand the supermax (at least not if the organization can show some stones and make some magic happen).

You make great points.

I'm being more devil's advocate here. Many of us talk often about missed opportunities. Well, Gobert is at his all time highest value this summer due to production and contract. If we don't want to pay him the supermax $40+ in 2021, we should trade him before the deadline to maximize value. We cant afford to lose him for nothing or peanuts.
