What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

I did... trey Burke had a nice tourney run too. I’m not going to confuse heart for a guy getting hot. FVV is a dawg... undrafted and just an effing dawg... not saying Carsen isn’t good... just not going to compare guys to FVV because he’s so unique. Edwards can be a scorer off the bench type... I will gladly trade that for Conley.

We can just wait on see on Carsen. We can both have differing opinions until then.

VanVleet is who he is. He plays his role for Toronto and has a ring because of it. We desperately need a guy who can score buckets like he just did. Doesn't even have to be a starter. Is that Grayson? Maybe, but I'm not sold yet. Could it be Carsen?

Conley seems to be the answer for everything and I hate putting all my eggs into one basket. If he fails, gets hurt, pulls a George Hill, whatever, we stand to lose everything. Draft picks, Rudy, maybe Donovan.

Yes we did, but we did it for 5 games. Its not like we choked a game 7 due to poor shooting so we think adding a Conley for Rubio, Favors AND draft pick is the difference.

We have gotten flat out beaten by Houston and GS in 3 straight elimination playoff series. I don't think we were one Jazz realistic acquisition away from winning this series on those teams much less subtracting guys then adding one guy.

My opinion is that we need our picks, we need free agents and we need development. We can't get too excited when our path isn't that quick unless we sign a max guy this summer.

Yes but we missed wide open shots for 5 games. Its not like its something they did. We just went on a cold streak at the wrong time. I think we win that series if we shoot decent. We were close to beating them. A little improvement and better fitting players makes a huge difference. Rubio did not have a good series against Houston. I would not call 20% from 3 mostly on wide open shots good. Houston dared him to shoot and he chocked hard. They basically didnt guard him for the series.

By far our biggest weakness is having a non shooting PG. It kills us. We should have played a lot of Mitchell, Royce, Ingles, Favors, and Gobert against Houston. Favors was by far our best player in that series and we should have given him more minutes.

Conley could cost us everything huh? A little dramatic there... how is it any different than acquiring any max free agent? Other than the draft pick compensation we put in the deal?

What if Tobias tears his Achilles in his first game? Then we have his max number in the books for four years with no ability to pivot... might have to trade picks to move that deal... might cost us everything.

What if Dlo and his inefficiency and bromance with DM drive Rudy out of town... what if he isn’t that good and we have him on a 4 year 100M contract? The sky is falling.... the horror.

Bro none of these moves come without risk... none of them make DM an unrestricted free agent in 2 years... he will be under team control... winning is what will make Rudy want to stay... not making a move and missing in free agency while preserving all our picks would be the best way to watch Rudy leave... then you can go on DM watch.

Dis gui wood nott helps us aganst rokkets at allll!!!!

We need shooting, creation, playmaking, and we need it in a player that doesn’t compromise the defense... would be nice if that player also had some high level playoff experience...

But no thanks to Conley... he will mak a whole 5M more than Dlo so pass.

Dude. I get it. We don't agree here. We are both beating dead horses.

And for the record - Conley costs us Rubio, Favors, at least 1 draft pick and Exum, Crowder, something else.

DLo or Tobias cost us cap space. We keep our picks (which I believe are very valuable). They also allow us to keep the other asset(s) necessary to get Conley (Crowder, Exum, another pick).

But most importantly, we can't even make a run at a free agent if we lock up Conley during the draft. It's the biggest free agent class in the league's history and we don't even want to try? Where is the ambition?

Dlo and Harris cost is Favs and Ricky too... that’s a dunk cost unless you are running it back... don’t be dumb.

Exum is a negative asset... no reason Jae and other stuff need to be added in.

We don’t need to make a run at a free agent if we get Conley... we can go get one that is actually going to sign here like Niko or Rudy Gay.

But yeah let’s pass and see if we can get that free agent... talk about putting your eggs in one basket... let’s go and try and get guys that 5-6 teams are after and worry about multiple dominoes that could fall that we can’t control and leave us holding the bag.

If we sign Russell for $25-27 million, I still think we can re-sign Favors which the front office has made very clear they want to try to do.

What makes you think the FO views Exum is a negative asset? If that's true, why would Memphis want him? Why would Memphis take a lesser pick than ours and a player they don't want in order to give us Conley? So in order to beat Indy or another to Conley, we are going to have to give a pick, and Exum AND an asset to make Memphis take Exum?

The logic is failing.
