Conley Officially a Jazzman

If we renounce everyone we have about 2M in cap space. Where do we go from here?

If we reup Sef for one year, we can go over the cap right, and if we do, we then have the full MLE?
Jazz will likely operate above the cap now.

They should still kick the tires on getting Tobias Harris, but I think that was a pipe dream before the Conley trade (and possibly a big reason the Jazz make that deal right now.)

There’s no reason to renounce the cap holds until after they’ve evaluated the FA landscape. Cap holds are on the books until the player signs elsewhere, or the team renounces.

Even if there’s no intention of bringing Udoh or Sefalosha back, they’re effectively keeping the Jazz above the cap line even if Rubio signs elsewhere immediately.

We still have no shooting at 4 and 5 position. We are still badly flawed for todays NBA.
Disagree it's not an issue. We also will pick up a stretch 4 to play with Gobert and Favors for certain matchups.

We kind of have to let Favs go if we still want to stand a chance at acquiring quality players to address roster holes.

That's why I have you my opinion as well using the FO's knowledge and opinions.
No
You said the front office likes them. Which is stating the obvious.

I was asking if we (the posters on this site) want Exum and favors.

Seems like a vast majority (like 90%) would have loved to get rid of Exum for about anything or anyone over the last few months.

Favors was more even but many many posters have stated that he doesn't fit and should be gone. You should know this since I have seen you argue the other side with many people

I don't really care about losing Crowder but I'm annoyed we keep trading picks for PGs when we can't seem to ever sign good players and depend on drafting them....

I have exceeded my free articles, what is the cap space situation?

There were two options: i) matching Conley's salary and operate as a team over the cap, thus getting the full MLE (9M)plus the bi annual exception or ii) sending less salary and absorbing Conley in our cap space, thus getting only the mini MLE (about 4.5M)

LMAO...……. Jazz purged 3 of the weakest defenders on the team in Korver, Crowder and Allen and still kept 2 of their best defenders (Exum/Favors). Now lets get rid of Thabo and Ekpe …..for Josh Jackson (Phoenix)

I like this trade. A lot.

People complain about cake baking. Then they complain about making a move.

You can argue we overpaid. That we have one guaranteed year with Conley, then he could leave on his player option. And that Conley is getting old. Well, if you had the chance to play with Gobert and Mitchell, would you be eager to move on? And the upside of him being old is that it is not clear there will be massive contracts tossed his way at the end of his option year.

Love Korver, but his time as an impact player was over.
Like Jae, but he is not someone who will elevate the franchise. Solid yes, great Jazz attitude yes. The third key piece behind Gobert and Mitchell? No.
I like Grayson and would have liked to keep him. But his ceiling is not sky high to me.
Wasn't terribly psyched for the 23rd pick this year. Hurts to lose another first round pick after this one, but nothing comes for free.

I am still an Exum fan, and we keep him. When healthy (yeah I know, small sample size) he has shown elite speed. And I have to believe he can learn to finish at the rim. But as much as I love Exum, it is too much of a risk to turn the point guard spot over to him until he shows he can finish and stay healthy. This will give at least one year for that. Exum has been ridiculously injured, but they really have been flukes of all different kinds. Maybe he is made of crystal and there is always one more thing waiting to shatter. But I really think he has the chance to finally blossom and I look forward to watching him get the chance.

Glad to still have Favors as a trade option or as a solid piece to keep. He has been a wonderful Jazz man and has performed big when it counted.

Then there is the impact on Gobert. We need to show him the Jazz are serious about winning the championship he craves. Making no moves increases the chance of losing the big man because he becomes frustrated and loses belief.

The impact on Mitchell may be larger. Back to the #2 spot with a point guard who can legitimately create his own shot. This will take so much of the pressure off of Donovan and will prevent a total defensive focus against him. And the Jazz are showing confidence to make moves because we know we are darn close to the top.

If the reported protections on that pick were true, we can kind of control our own destiny by tanking to the bottom to ensure that we get within that top 7 protection category. Something extreme would need to happen though, like Conley gets hurt. Then we will surely be the loser in the trade and everything we do will basically be cutting our losses.
There’s almost no way to ensure a top-7 pick with how the lottery has changed.

What does this entail? Do we have to resign one of our free agents specifically? What if we extend and increase Royce? Would something like that work to get us the MLE?

I will be sad if after all this we end up not keeping favs. Dude has been a rock for the team. He is the best back up big in the game. If Rudy gets hurt, favs is a solid replacement.
