What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Alright... here is what we should do...

Waive Favors...

Sign Ed Davis using the room exception... 2/4.8M

We then have $16M in space...
Sign JaMychal Green to a 3/21M deal. About 7M used
Sign Demarre Carrol to a 2/10M deal. About 5M used
Sign Alex Caruso to a 4/12M deal. About 3M used

So we have
Starting guards - Conley/DM - with backups Dedex/Caruso/Neto
Starting Forwards - Ingles/Green - with backups of Royce/Carroll/Niang
Starting Center - Rudy - Davis/Bradley backups
Two second rounders make the team to fill out the roster... one goes to the stars on a two way. Could waive Neto or Bradley and sign all three, but I'm guessing not all of them will be awesome in SL.

If we keep Favors and therefore have next to nothing in cap space, what is considered aggressive?
I just think keeping Favors and using the room exception is the expected move . That can't be considered aggressive at all.

If we do it, I understand it. Just seems interesting our new GM would say it like that.

We need 1-2 super cheap contracts. Like vet minimum cheap that is.

Tyson Chandler and Gerald Green come to mind. I think the former is very possible. Green? I doubt it but someone like that.

Just watched JaMychal Green some more... if we can get him for 7-10M per year we should do it. 40% three shooter on good volume. Good from 15 feet to the 3 pt line. Can't protect the rim like Favs, but he can move his feet on the perimeter quite well. Can punish wings when teams go small because he can dribble into a post up and power through fools. Get a stretch 4 that doesn't compromise rebounding and can hurt teams that go small by hitting the glass or posting them up.

Get green and whatever quality backup center will take the room exception... go win the title.

Also, this rumored Horford offer... I am going to say it is absolutely from Sacramento... it is totally a KANGS move. When they do it Bjelica is going to be very available and I'd like him to come here.

Bjelica would be a great fit. We really need a good stretch 4.

So another take on the Boston potential deal... rumored to like Adams... OKC needs to save some money... So say we do a 3 team trade where Favs goes to OKC and Adams goes to Boston. Boston may give us that Milwaukee pick and OKC might send us something (if they have anything they are low on picks).

Swapping out Adams for Favs saves OKC around $40M this year without a drop in player quality imo… maybe Adams is slightly better, but I really don't think so.

Bill Simmons has mentioned Adams a few times with regard to Boston... He does have some sources at the team. Maybe they prefer Favs and we do a deal directly. This would allow us to get a first and then use space to reconfigure the roster... help out a division opponent though.

Saves okc 40 million by getting favors instead of Adams? Favors would make like 17 million right? So Adams was going to make about 60 million this year? Doesn't sound right.

We aren't going to trade or let Favors go for any kind of downgrade. So any player we bring in to replace him has to be some sort of equal. Green is not that guy.

Gotta be somebody like...
- Tobias
- Winslow
- Covington
- Randle
- Barnes
- Somebody else

Gonna have to be an improvement for the now.

In regards to Favors... We might as well eliminate any ideas of waiving him, trading him for just picks, or getting a lesser player back.

Tony Jones has pretty much confirmed he's not going anywhere unless we get an equal (or better) player back.

I know Tony isn't all knowing. But he has been accurate. And we know DL loves Favs. So.

Why would anyone like to move Favors for a lesser player?

Right? I get his contract for a backup center is way too high. But!! He gives us the best chance to win. Best backup in the league. Isn’t that what we ultimately want? A championship? Waving him for someone worse as a backup center seems *** backwards.

I’m very curious who the FO would view as an equal or better player, because I’m convinced it’s a unicorn that doesn’t exist with the way they talk. Like, if KD wanted to sign?

This is a big problem though... people assuming a downgrade in backup center is a much bigger issue than an upgrade of a starting power forward. The problem isn’t with him as a backup center — it’s with him as a starting PF.

Sweet which one of those options is a free agent that won’t take up all our remaining space?

In a vacuum Favs is better but Green provides more of what we need on offense and costs a ton less... just like how we are better when Jae is on the floor instead of Favs... even though Favs is better.

It’s that easy... don’t overthink things... with Conley on board we don’t need as much creation.

The monkey is the FO. The fruit is Favors and DedEx.
