What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

If you can get Bjelica with Exum (and a nominal asset?), then maybe Philly would be remotely interested in a Favors/Bjelica S&T since they need a stretchy 4 pretty badly.

Was Philly the team he committed to last year before bailing?

I want someone who knows the CBA to tell me what happens if we do this:

1. absorb Conley into capspace but we are close to our salary cap
2. trade Favors for Gallinari which gets us above the salary cap?

Does that make us a full MLE team? Or do we still only have the room MLE?

Not if Dante gets his jumper going. They would be the best fast break team in the league, the fastest, and they would smother teams defensively. They would destroy the jazz if Dante gets his jumper going
I’m Australian, a Dante and Ben homer and even I call bu$&#%it on this.

I really think Bjelica and Favors would be great fits on the Sixers. Bjelica is going to provide most of what they’re tasking Harris with doing for much less money, and Favors fits next to Embiid better than he does Gobert offensively. Additionally, Embiid misses a lot of games due to load management or injury, so he would be especially useful as Embiid’s understudy.

Another trade idea...

Lets assume Philly loses either Butler or Harris. Let's also assume they have interest in Exum due to potential, friendship with Simmons, etc.

Philly gets Exum
New York gets 2nd rounders from Philly
Jazz get Frank Nkilitina

Philly gets a guy they want who isn't too expensive and still has potential.

NY has Frank on the block for 2nd rounders and space so they get what they want.

Utah gets Frank who is similar to Exum but much cheaper. Frank is very close to Donovan and is Gobert's France teammate. The extra $5+ in cap space allows us to build more depth for our very thin roster. And we would be able to keep Neto.

Still the room exception.

7 Step Plan

#1 - Renounce Thabo, Rubio, Udoh

#2 - Do NY/Philly/Utah 3 team trade where we get Nkilitina, Exum goes to Philly, 2nds to NY

#3 - Pick up options on Favors and Neto

#4 - Trade for Conley (as originally presented)

#5 - Sign Jamychal Green or DeMarre Carroll for the cap space when trading Exum for Nkilitina ($5 million)

#6 - Use Room Exception on Wes Matthews or somebody with potential like Furkan Korkmaz

#7 - Sign somebody like Thabo or Deng to a minimum deal

PG - Conley, Neto, Nklitina
Wings - Donovan, Joe, Royce, Matthews/Korkmaz, Deng/Thabo
PF - Favors, Green/Carroll, Niang
C - Gobert, Bradley
2 of our 3 2nd rounders will make the roster. Maybe the 3rd guy gets a 2 Way deal.

If we can't/won't trade Exum, we don't get Wes Matthews or a potential guy like Korkmaz. We just pick up Deng AND Thabo.

If we use cap space to absorb Conley we operated below the cap and have no full MLE or Bae.

I think we could trade Favs into capspace and get a couple seconds or maybe a late first... we can then use the space we cleared to pursue other options... we guarantee his salary and then move him. We can negotiate with free agents and trade prior to July 6

Teams looking for centers...

Sacramento... WCS wants out and it sounds like Kings aren’t in that deal long term.

Dallas... better version of Powell... but they may be after Horford.

Boston... this makes a lot of sense since they are rumored to like Adams and Vucevic.

Orlando... if they let Vucevic walk.

Lakers if they strike out in FA. Clips too ( they may be able to sign Kawhi and assume Favs).

Houston in a three way with Boston if they are sending out Capela... OKC if the same deal if they are sending out Adams.

Maybe Atlanta wants a good vet and upgrade from Dedmon. He may take a home town discount to stay after this year... I’m not sure they have any space left though.

Nab a couple seconds or first maybe make them eat Bradley’s small deal... I think we can get something for him rather than just waiving him. I feel pretty strongly that if he is waived he will be claimed by someone.

I like most of this. I believe Green seems to prefer staying with the Clippers. But adding Frank, Carroll and Matthews would be good. I’d even be up for bringing back Thabo. There will likely be roster spots up for grabs and you can do a lot worse than him so long as he stays healthy.
In fact, the only thing I dislike is what you’ve done to Frank’s last name (Ntilikina).

I agree too, but I’d buyout or trade Bradley and sign Willie Reed instead.

I think they likely need to renounce Green to sign Kawhi... which sounds like less of a guarantee... but they also won’t want to clog the books so may only offer a one year deal.

A sleeper free agency target for the Jazz would be Marcus Morris. Jazz could probably get him for 2 years and $17M. Obviously, not our first choice, but he's probably somewhere on the shortlist.

Lol. I always butcher his name. Considering how much I like him as a prospect, I never seem to get his name right.

We really need one more guy other than O'Neale who is high quality off the bench. I'd love to have Green, but I'm also high on Carroll.

If we could squeeze out enough space, I'd love to look at Ilyasova too. Maybe we do the Frank/Exum trade then trade Bradley for Ilyasova. The Bucks would probably do it for the savings ($5 million this year and $7 next year). Ilyasova would be a great bench guy the next couple years.

Hey, you got all the right letters at least. To be honest, the only reason I get it right is because I’ve made a conscious effort to learn his and Giannis’ names by saying them to myself over and over.
