What's new

Rudy is DPOY for the second year in a row

He cried when talking about his Mom and her feelings. Completely different emotion.
And even though if he cried for not getting appreciated for what he achieved in his profession, this is just a humane behavior.

Embiid mocked and then profile-pic’ed his tears.

I think Conley's guaranteed for 20/21 as the conditions to invoke the ETO weren't met.

No. As far as I've been able to tell, the conditions you're referring to were only about guaranteeing what salary he will make in 2020-2021 on his current contract. In addition to the ETO, he also has a player option (or something essentially the same as that) which allows him to decide whether he wants to maintain that contract for 2020-2021. So the Jazz are only guaranteed to have him for one year.

Unless I overlooked someone, A. Sherrod Blakeley is the only person to not put Rudy at least in his top 3.

Congrats Rudy, you made us all proud. Great things are on the horizon for all of us here in Utah. Thank you

Isn't the DPOY title somewhat overrated considering that Jazz did not even made it to the second round of the playoffs? Shouldn't the DPOY be awarded to a player who keeps the opponent's best player in single digits or at least forces a terrible shot selection and shooting pct.? Maybe i am old and eyesight is bad, but watching only the 9-10 minute highlights on the Youtube - wasn't Rudy a non-factor during the Jazz-Rockets series?

U dumb af

I really want to see Rudy be a 20/13/3 legit mvp player this year.
With Conley in the mix that is realistic IMO. I could see him breaking his own dunk record again. With extra outside threats the roll game will become devastating.

Again, IMHO, as basketball is team game, then DPOY title is little bit overrated. I.e IMHO it is pretty hard to 100% prove whether the win achived by team is a result of good offense or good defense. Shouldn't somebody, who receives a DPOY title, be equally good anyway even if the offense is poor? If Leonard, Curry, Harden, Westbrook and even Adams or Capela are not afraid of you - how is the DPOY title then justified?

Wouldn't the Jazz win the series if he had a la 2 or 3 times more blocks and steals; as person who receives the DPOY award, shouldn't he able to do it? Even if the shots do not fall - how does that prevent to have extraordinary defense? Yes, i did not watched the full games - but several times it seemed to me (based on does so called Full Highlight Videos) that he even does not try to attempt to jump to block the close shot or layup. How is 13 blocks per 5 games an extraordinary achievement when your team loses the series? Houston made 183 field goals for the series - wasn't there plenty of material for more blocks?
Perhaps it would help you to watch full games and base your opinions on facts rather than "it seemed to me" opinions0 based on "highlight videos." Over the past three seasons, Rudy has had a greater impact on the defensive side of the court than any player in the game -- based on DRtg/Opp FG% at the Rim/greatest reduction in opponent Team eFG% and TS%, and reduction in "smart shots" for the opposing team versus any other player in the league. Causing negative variances for your opponent at the defensive end has exactly the same impact in terms of wins as causing positive variances for your own team at the offensive end. So, while players like Durant, Curry, and Harden get all the accolades, Rudy has impacted the Jazz's ability to win as much or more than those players have affected their teams' ability to win.
