What's new

Jerami Grant traded to Denver

I don't think it was confirmed that Exum was truly the holdup.
It wasn’t confirmed that he was the holdup, but it’s confirmed that when they asked we said no. In any case, DL valued Exum above the two weeks of limbo he put the team, and Ricky, through.

Denver rescinded Lyles’s qualifying offer after this trade lol

Yeah this is a good pickup for Denver, sucks for the Jazz as it fills a hole they had. I also believe they might be able to keep him as Millsap's deal is up after this year.

I would've like Grant on the Jazz TBH, he was a player I liked last year for the Jazz to steal away from OKC.

I’m not sure this is a great pickup. They have some big salary coming off the books but have the Murray max starting and Beasley is a free agent too. This move has to make hernangomez available... I’d send a couple seconds their way for that to happen. I think he’s a solid prospect at the 4. I don’t think they will pay him next year (he won’t get a lot but they likely don’t want to pay him market value 5-7M+ if healthy and playing well).

I know this is sacrilege but right now, I’d predict:
1. Denver
2. Clips
3. Jazz
4. Blazers
5. Lakers
6. Rox
7. Spurs
8. Kings

Spurs drafted Samanic and Johnson, added Marcus Morris and Demarre, retained Rudy Gay, and have Murray coming back from injury. They could be sneaky really good.

Bertans was solid for them last year... so that loss is not nothing. They will be solid because... Spurs.

I know this is sacrilege but right now, I’d predict:
1. Denver - They have only improved and were #2, so I agree with them at #1
2. Clips - Talent-wise should be #1, but both Kawhi and Paul will have load management, so they will probably be 2-3
3. Jazz - Missing some toughness and depth. The West overall is tougher, so I could see them being in the 4-5 again.
4. Blazers -I think it is a coin flip between Blazers and Jazz for the 4-5. Which backcourt will win out?
5. Lakers - Lakers are the deepest team in the league. I would put them at 3
6. Rox - Rockets have make no significant moves to this point. Wouldn't it be amazing if they missed the playoffs? I'd put the warriors in this spot.
7. Spurs - Rockets and Spurs will battle for the 8th spot.
8. Kings - I think Kings are 7.

It would be a huge shock if the Warriors don't make the playoffs. I would see them being 5-7.

If Utah is going to trade Dante at the moment, it would have to be a sucker deal given his current value. There's a chance he could play his way into value this season, but we'll need to see. If such is the case, Utah may well just keep him. Love the "what ifs" involved with this stuff.

You realize teams keep asking for him and we keep saying no, right? Pretty sure that means he has value. Jazz fans have him most underrated.

Dang. That's my guy. Big big fan, too bad we couldn't have got him.

Hindsight. At the time, the deal was solid enough that most of us were good with it. You can't crucify a man for something that wasn't a sin at the time.

Even though I wasn’t super exited about it, I’d agree. I don’t fault him for his Hayward PTSD. What I do fault him for is not wanting to include him in a deadline Conley deal and sending out the “OMG we love Exum and think he can be special” message continually through TJ.

I bet Utah was the only team dumb enough to offer him that ridiculous contract. They clearly got caught up in sunk costs mentallity and needed outside consulting to knock whatever dumb groupthink that was going on inside out of them.

Drafting Dante was stupid enough. Doubling down on that failure by giving him that albatross contract should have gotten people fired. I said as much at both times, so no crucifying after the fact here.

Warriors out completely? I don't see that happening.

4-7 is shaky for me. Put them in any order tbh. I feel good about 1-3 and the Blazers at 8 though.

Not at all

1st for a backup 4/5 on a basically expiring (he has a player option next year so if he gets hurt he can opt in). They also saved them the cash... felt like a couple seconds should get that done... not many teams can just take that contract at this point.

lol

Grant is a bonafide starter. Obviously he's going to spend a year behind Millsap, but they got their PFOTF for a late first round pick and he fits next to Jokic perfectly. It's anything but an overpay.
