Looking at the Rotation and a couple of questions

I think the following are set into stone for rotation:

Conley 32/
Mitchell 32/
Bogdonavic 32/ O'Neale 16
/
Gobert 32/ Davis 16

Question 1: Do we start Ingles or Green/Niang?

Green and Niang would play backup minutes with the starters and Ingles could bolster the bench. And finish games.

Question 2: Who is the backup point guard Exum, Mitchell or Mudiay?

Personally I think we try Exum first and hope we can get him going. Mudiay is a big wild card. And Mitchell is our backup plan.

Question 3: Who plays the backup shooting guard minutes?

My guess is it would be a combination of O'Neale and Exum depending on the matchup. If we are playing Lou Williams then exum. DeRozan take O'Neale.

What is the best rotation for the Jazz? If we try to play Mitchell at PG then we have to play Niang and Jeff Green more. So are Exum/Mudiay/O'Neale better than Niang?

Start Green at the 4 Bogey at the 3 give Ingles the Crowder min, mostly play bogey at the 4

One of DM or Conley should be in at all times. So DM at pg. I don’t really view X as a pg and Mudiay sucks as a pg
Question 3: Who plays the backup shooting guard minutes?
Mudiay and X, play the hot hand

Wouldn't it be a HUGE boost if the Jazz player development system helped Mudiay take his game to the next level? Having a Dinwiddie/Vanvleet-type boost off the bench would be an amazing add to this team. Not counting on it, but hopeful . . . .
Taking his game to a new level means moving him to sg.

I think O'Neale gets a bit more than that.

1) I suspect Green will get the start at PF, but I'm not sure that's the best plan. I remember reading that the plan is to finish with a lineup of Conley/Mitchell/Ingles/Bog/Gobert, though.

For that matter, I'd probably start either Conley/Mitchell/Ingles/Bog/Gobert or Conley/Mitchell/O'Neale/Bog/Gobert.

2) For what it's worth, Locke is on record saying he thinks Mudiay will be backup PG and Exum will be backup SG. I don't know if that's likely, but Locke often has inside info about stuff like this (even if he presents it as his own opinions). If not for that I'd say Exum as backup PG. Either way I think Mitchell will only play PG in case of injuries.

3) See my previous answer--so maybe Exum. Or maybe if they can really give Boj lots of minutes at the 4, then Ingles and O'Neale can pick up their minutes as backups at the 2 and 3 (somewhat interchangeably).

In a vacuum, I think you start Green and have Ingles move to the Ginobili role, which will minimize the amount of time that you don't have 2 of Ingles, Conley, and Mitchell on the floor.
However, this gets complicated by who is closing games. If Bogdonovic can't defend the 4, then either him or Ingles will have to be on the bench in crunch time. I expect Ingles will be upset if he neither starts nor closes games, but Bogdonovic didn't come here to sit either. Quin is going to have a job in the locker room.

i look at it like this

Conley, Exum, Mudiay
Mitchell, O'Neale
Bogdanovic, Ingles
Green, Niang
Gobert Davis, Bradley

That is how I see the Depth Chart and I expect Conley, Mitchell, Ingles, Bogdanovic, Gobert to finish the game.

I think Green makes the most sense to start. I'm open to the closing lineup also being the starting lineup, and leaving Joe in there. But with Green it seems like you'd get more bang for your buck with him by starting, unless you felt he was offense off the bench. In the starting lineup he just needs to play good D and require a body on him on the perimeter, which I think he accomplishes in the starting lineup. I think he makes less sense off the bench but what do I know. I'm fine with Royce starting at the 4, too.

Which teams would Ingles/Bojan at the 3/4 cause matchup issues with?

Portland? No. I don't even know who plays the 4 for them now.
Sacramento? Don't think so.
GSW? Bojan can guard Draymond.
Lakers? Yes, but they'll give us problems regardless. Use Green.
Clippers? See above.
Phoenix? Lol.
Denver? Maybe, but I think Bojan will do fine on Millsap.
Minnesota? Who care about them.
San Antonio? Yeah.
OKC? Lol.
Houston? Bojan is fine on Tucker.
Dallas? Who's actually playing the 4?
NOP? No spacing on that team (not that that's relevant).
Grizzlies? Bojan guards Crowder. Or they play JJJ. But whatever. They don't matter.

And the Eastern Conference is a **** show.

Ingles is coming off the bench. While Dante may be listed as the PG the de facto pg will be Joe.

I'm a big supporter of starting Royce at the 4 (or playing him there a lot) but I think it will be Green. I'd like to see Royce get 30 minutes a night and starting him is the easiest way to make that happen. He's the best rebounding wing we have and that could be a concern with Favs leaving. Most nights I think you could cross match and put Royce on the best or biggest starting wing.

When we are healthy:

Conley - Exum
DM - Ingles
Bojan - Royce
Green - Royce/Niang
Rudy - Davis

That is really damn solid... you mix and match lineups as DM, Royce, Ingles, Bojan, Exum, Green can play multiple positions. My biggest concern is not the pf minutes... its Exum's injury potential. We are short a perimeter player if Exum is unhealthy and Mudiay isn't ready. It isn't a huge concern, because we can cover with Ingles, DM getting more pg duties.

I think that we start
Conley
Mitchell
Bojan
Green
Gobert

Exum is the backup point guard but gets a few minutes at the 2. (Mitchell is probably the third string point guard)
Oneal is the backup 2 but gets some minutes and 3 and maybe even 4.
Jingles is the backup 3 and runs the offense when Exum is in cause we don't trust him to totally run the offense.
Niang gets some backup minutes at the 4 and so does a whole bunch of dudes. Backup 4 minutes are the most up for grabs. Davis, bojan, niang, Royce, Ingles and rookies all gonna be vying for those minutes.

Rudy, Davis, Bradley is the easiest position to predict imo.

I figure mudiay, Bradley and the rooks only play in blowouts or if there are injuries.

Having some fun. Here's my dunkers and 3ball lineup. :)

Donovan Mitchell
Miye Oni
Royce Oneal
Jarrel Brantley
Jeff Green

One thing I'm watching... I wonder if we go get a more traditional 4 with the last roster spot. I figure two of the second round guys (likely Oni and Brantley) make the roster and then we have one last roster spot. I think JWF gets a two way.

I wonder if Kidd or King have a shot at making the team. I'd give either guy a two-way if they'd take it. King is a little more intriguing than Kidd to me. If we had Oni we'd have one developmental 3 and D guy on the roster so I'm not sure you carry two guys like that or go for something more proven or get some variety.

I don't think the last roster spot goes to a pg... I think backup pg will be Exum or Mudiay when Exum gets hurt. I think having a thick wing would be good and Kidd/King could be a good gamble.

Is there any more smoke coming from this Troy Williams thing?

Who’s a traditional 4 we could get at this point?

Green is older. Let him start, use up his energy against opposing 4s until he is gassed (~20 min), then close with Bogey.

Bogey is strong enough to close at the 4 and be effective defensively. Pairing him with Ingles to close out games makes us unstoppable offensively, so do that.

Royce can come in for Mitchell and pair with Mitchell when Conley sits. All other PGs should get garbage time.
