What's new

Ed Davis - What the Jazz coaching staff said that made him pick Utah...

He averaged 2 FTA per game last year. He should get about the same amount of minutes. The difference between him shooting 61.7% (which he did last year) vs. shooting 85% is 0.466 points per game. The difference between his current percentage and 75% is 0.266 points per game.

His free throws don't matter. At all.
Quin Snyder would be mad about this conclusion and he would be right.
An NBA game is decided by an average of 4.6 points last time I checked, perhaps it is a bit higher now. Anyway 0. 266 is about 5~6% of that alone . It's not insignificant at all. It is a quarter. Ask the significance of half a point to punters. It's a thousand dollars sometimes.

I like Ed.

I like Ed.

And Ed likes you.

er

i kind of would maybe like it if he learned some kind of jump shot, maybe a hook shot. otherwise nobody respect him.

but then he'd cost more, so oh well.

... I'm still trying to figure out what this post is means when it comes to the way Handlogten's Heros sees himself.

I think I'm self-aware, but people that have the least amount of self-awareness likely think they are self-aware AF.

They don’t matter...until they start hacking him late game...or if he’s playing extended minutes if Rudy is injured

How many games do you think we’ll have where we lose by one and he’s missed two free throws? And, of those games, how many other variables will be present?

1.3 games on average if history repeats itself. Smile. My question to you is how sure are you that it will never happen? It just has to happen once for the correlation to pay. Let's keep track of it and see. And I hope he makes 90% of his free throws so it is a moot point.

Doesn't matter is Donovan scores 24 or 25, it's just a point.

Rudy 10 boards or 11 boards, just one board. no impact

Jingles 40% or 39% from three. just 1%. no impact.

Conley 6 assists of 7. no impact

Over the course of a season, everything matters.

They do matter. But to isolate one variable — of hundreds — and squabble over the difference is missing the mark.

I'm not saying it's a huge concern but it is one. We haven't really had a terrible free throw shooter on the team for a while. No reason to freak out.
