What's new

School kid dragged by his bus. Claimed to be racist act.

I saw that. It was Berkeley that has adopted this. Thanks guys, way to tackle the biggest problems. Crisis averted!

Yup, so stupid. All they did was make a ton of people roll their eyes at them. It ended up damaging support, or at least reception, to an important issue.

one of our liberal politics was trying to push agenda on stop calling homeless people - "homeless". Apparently it is insulting and they need to be called "outdoor neighbours". My oh my.

At my job the term used is “transient”.

I don't think I have enough of the mans history to think he's being racist. Certainly dangerous enough for a very stern reprimand, up to termination.

As to good Wes' comments, I'd like you all to review this 2003 post from slashdot

There's a link to a snopes article explaining it. For those that don't know what master/slave refers to in this situation, here's a wiki link

We've been there for most of my adult life. It feels worse now because we're a helluva lot more connected than we were in previous decades.
This world’s gone completely in the *****er. Common sense is a thing of the past.

California has now banned the term "manhole", and changed it to "maintenance hole". Lol!!!

Hope to get some action tonight. With MsSerp’s manhole.

Sorry here’s an article.

I was trying to identify with you, and expressed a somewhat similar story from my past. Standard terms that are used and even industry standard titles have been changed because they're offensive. I was only trying to add my history to it, as I giggled the first time I really identified it as a thing. I imagined a computer illiterate sub corpsing the first time he heard about ide straps, and master/slave hard drive setups. It feels like similar happened here; a wheel squeeked loudly and someone fixed it to (be less offensive OR get good PR)

That's silly. It has many more purposes than that, so it is not an adequate name. But hey, you got some laughs.

But that doesn’t address the point he was making. Yes, it was funny.

Can’t wait til some compute nerds out there are “offended” by the term gigs, as in gigabytes (even though the prefix makes totally numeric sense), because they’ll say it reminds them of gigalos.
It's gig not jig you gig

I know what you mean. Like here at work, I'm not even allowed to call Mr. Talky-bathroom-guy by the technical term, apparently there is something offensive about the term "****ing *******".

So you’re a hypocrite. Got it.
You’re not a hypocrite if what you say and think is different. You are if what you say to different people are different for the purpose of some kind of gain. People can have different views and want to not voice it it to avoid negative feedbacks. You not saying the **** you think about your boss to his face doesn’t mean that you are hypocrite.

Eh, I'm pretty sure she calls it her maintenance hole...

It might be self served these days.
