Dammit. Knew I was forgetting something. “Drain the swamp!”

You need to throw in draining the swamp, your drive by attack on AOC and your occasional attack on HRC/mueller/social issue (usually BLM and abortion)and you literally peg every caller into Limbaugh and Hannity.

Not.
Joking.

I think that Asian dude (sorry I can't remember his name right now) that Archie likes proposed something where each American gets 100 democracy dollars to finance a candidate or something like that. I think that's a good idea.

Of course since it's also an out of the box idea and not simply the status quo, no one would like that idea.

People say that want change and that want anti establishment candidates. But they are lying. The moment someone has a new idea they get labeled extremist.

You’re right.

Why are people so resistant to even the thought of change? Especially when it’s change that could benefit them? Even when it’s not a benefit to them directly, it’s a benefit to people around them.

Making college more affordable wouldn’t help me anymore. But I definitely see merits in it. Yet somehow that’s “socialism?”

Helping rural areas and poor people gain access to health care doesn’t benefit me. I live in the burbs. But I definitely see positives to it.

I don’t get it. Different values maybe?

Compassion, creativity, kindness, honor, class, open mindedness, just continue to become more and more endangered by more and more of the population. Just blindly following whatever party no matter what is on the rise. And unfortunately, as the election and very real possibility of re-election of Donald Trump is showing us, the opposite of compassion and kindness and class and honor is what the people apparently want.

Truer words have never been spoken.

Unfortunately, we all know he’s gonna talk. And when he does... yikes... fortunately, Biden is going up against the lebron James of gaffes. trump is angry drunk racist Biden on roids.

Unfortunately, angry, drunken and racist is probably popular among a huge chunk of voters. And then there are the ones that don't really care about about the candidates and just check the D or R box no matter what. (I almost think these people are worse than the ones who love hateful, angry, racist candidates. Almost)

Sadly, pointing this out only makes people double down even more.

Donald is going to have a lot more money than the Democratic candidate. Corporations, Wall Street, the Kochs love the guy. He’s gotten rid of regulations and has given them big time handouts. he’s going to have the full backing of Fox News. And will probably get a lot more ink than the democratic candidate on cnn and The NY Times. and he is KILLING it with republicans/non-college educated whites.

As much as I’d like to see him get wiped out in a blue tidal wave, I just don’t think it’s possible anymore.

Too many dumb and bitter voters in the south and Midwest who equate treating immigrants like humans, gun regulation, and universal health care as communist attacks on their freedumb.
This will be another close election. The Democrat may easily win the popular vote but the Electoral College will be too close to call. Every vote in the swing states will be massively important. I’m not a Democrat but I will volunteer, donate and vote for whomever they nominate. My guess for now is the Never Trumpers, the independents and the moderates who despise Trump, who may even want him impeached and say he’s a disaster for the country, but who just can’t overcome their pious purity to actually vote for someone too liberal, will likely be determinative and throw the EC once again to Trump.

PS. The Koch brothers are very conservative, libertarian Republicans who disagree with Trump on trade and immigration. They sat out the 2016 election and will likely refrain from any monetary support for Trump in 2020. They’ll pour money into pushing their agenda on other candidates and lobbying efforts.

Warren is extremely intelligent and is a policy wonk. I know that turns some people off who hate trying to understand complicated things, but she's far from a nut job.

As of right now she's my #1.

Fair enough, but her public persona is definitely a bit off. Just my opinion I suppose but I think she has too much baggage to make it to the nomination.

More than trump did? Or Clinton? I severely doubt that.

No not necessarily but it comes off differently as well, and the way she speaks is almost disingenuous and condescending and it's a big reason why I think she won't make it to the nomination.

Trump is embraced by his base and he is viewed differently when he speaks. It's more just being blunt and honest like a regular person so I think in that regard he gets away with more gaffs in public opinion, at least on the right.

I don’t see or hear that at all. I hear passion.

Also, baggage to you is a selling point to others and vice versa.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

For sure. I still think Buttigieg is going to surprise some people and that Harris will be the big name front runner.

Debated creating a new thread for this.

This might be one of the best twitter threads I’ve ever read. This is from a guy who worked in campaigns against Grand Wizard David Duke in 90 and 91. He offers advice to democrats that I find is invaluable.

What do you think?

I think he makes a very compelling case.

Lol, one we’ve all been making. At least on its base premise. Drive up the turn out. Such as the minority vote or older voters who rarely vote.

Constant cries of “he’s racist!” Wont he enough to do that by themselves. We’ve been doing it for 2 years and you risk burn out.

Sure point it out, but turn down the regularity of it and start finding something in their own candidate to get others excited about.

Good plan

I'm not quite sure what you're saying here. His case is that we should make Trump's racism and authoritarianism the issue of the election, because it represents an existential threat to the American way of life. Not that we should talk about those issues less.

The way I see it, the candidate with the best chance is the one who will make the case for a vision of America that lives up to our ideals of a truly fair and equal society, and why they, rather than Trump, live up to those ideals.

I agree with his base goal of animating new/infrequent voters. And I agree that flipping current trump supporters is not the way to go. Any meaningful number of people that will stop supporting him already have.

I disagree that making it “the” topic is the way to go. Yes, it needs to be there. But there has to be more. So I agree on the goal but don’t agree on the path to get there.

I could have been clearer in my previous post.

Fair enough. I think he has a point about normalizing him as a politician when you don't make his abnormality the central part of the campaign, given his experience running a campaign against David Duke.

I agree. It doesn’t need to just disappear. But this isn’t 1990. Social media has exploded. With so much all the time you risk burn out and people start tuning you out.

For me the best times to do it are after major policy announcements of his and during live debates against him. Make a speech about it as well. But time the hits to when they’re most impactful. Keep it there but not over whelming. And in between build up positive energy that they’re doing good by voting for you, or against him.
