That’s a big reason I don’t do these. An 80’s or 90’s and onward draft makes sense for that reason.

It's not fair to the older generations to say that they are irrelevant for a draft like this. If some of these guys were raised with the resources players have now, some of these legends would be even better. If you dominate your era, it's reasonable to think that you would be good in any era. They might not dominate at the same level, but they would be a factor.

And sometimes, the eras would make contemporary stars worse. Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell did what they did triple teamed in the post. Imagine if they weren't or imagine if others were...

It doesn’t matter what is fair and what is not. The fact of the matter is that the game is dramatically different now, so the whole notion of comparing their ability and having them play in the same game almost doesn’t make sense.

And the pre-zone illegal defense rules disagrees with your second paragraph a lot. There’s a big reason the game has changed, and being able to play real defense is a huge one.

The game changes and for the most part, players get better. It's the evolution of the game and the players for it. But it's just dumb to say that a player who played in the 70's shouldn't be considered. Wilt Chamberlain was 7'1" with a 48 inch vertical. He averaged 50ppg when defenses were allowed to triple team him. To think he would be less useful than Dwight Howard is a joke.

Chamberlain was a physical freak of nature. Bring him into the modern era with modern nutrition and training and he would be even more dominant. Many who downplay his ability probably never watched him play. He was simply a force of nature. Even if his averages were halved due to modern rules he would still average 25 and 12 with who knows how many blocks and assists.

He dunked so hard, he broke Johnny Kerr's foot when the ball came down and hit it.
 
Pretty obvious who fish is talking about and I agree with him. No names please though and let’s not drop hints or clues.
