I have heard that inside of 21ft (not sure what that is in commie units) a person with a knife can fatally wound a person with a gun before the person with the gun can draw and fire.

Correct, coppers are taught 10 meters I believe. After their experiences in Afghanistan US special forces operators altered their training to learn more knife self defence.

Dark house, which you are familiar with, with a decent knife, you shouldn't need a firearm.

And a long gun, like an AR-15 is just plain old not good in a house, for like a bunch of reasons. The time it takes to swing the muzzle onto target being a big one. The over-penetration of the round (that can travel through walls and kill innocent people, like your wife and kids) being another big one.

Guns are overrated. But the reality is that there are certain situations where they have no substitute.
