What's new

Utah-v-BYU

I think both teams will look pretty sloppy being that it’s the first game of the year and there are key players out with injury/still recovering. But I think it’ll be close and utah will win in the end. Too much athleticism. Although, historically, BYU has usually looked very good at the start of their seasons and have gradually worn down to lack of depth and brutal schedules.

Could this be the year BYU finally beats utah?

Uh oh

Lol, right?!

I hope like hell he plays but the more important thing is Moss being ready by the USC game.

I’m sure BYU fans are licking their chops at the prospects of facing Utah without Moss and possibly Covey but Utah should still win the game with those 2 in street clothes. “Should” is a dangerous word though.

I remember back in the day when this place was full of high level smack talk in regards to the rivalry. Guys like Conan and Trout always had terrible takes, but they came strong and I respect that.

While I’m pretty bummed at the overall toxicity on Twitter between the 2 fan bases, I definitely miss the Jazzfanz throwdowns we used to have.

You forgot about Salty.

What ever happened to Conan? He stopped posting after I dunked on him a de decade or so ago.

I hate the trash talk and vitriol. I like kindness and respect.
Kinda hate the rivalry game due to the amount of hate between the fanbases.
I enjoy reading articles about byu and I would like to read the comments about the articles but the majority of the comments on byu articles are Ute fans being assholes. It's not fun for me.
That's just my take though and I understand that many people get joy from being dicks to one another.

I’ve always held you in a different regard than most BYU fans. I wish there was more folks like you on both sides.

As for me, I’m just not a very good person. I grew up during the era where BYU owned Utah and I got hell for it each and every day at school. And when I say “hell”, in all honesty there was some serious ugliness. My elementary school/town was not very diverse and back in those days, I was one of the few Ute fans that proudly claimed them as my team.

I agree that Ute fans take it too far on a lot of the article comment sections but I also think that people have a hard time remembering just how arrogant and superior BYU fans acted back in the 80’s because social media obviously wasn’t in existence. What BYU fans now experience during an era of Utah dominance is pretty much the same thing Ute fans were subject to all those years ago.

I literally lol'd when I read "as for me, I'm just not a very good person"
I like people that can make fun of themselves. I'm sure you are a fine person.

That really did crack me up.

I guess when byu was dominant I didn't see the arrogance as much cause I was so much younger and cause there wasn't internet/social media etc.

sort of figured out how to post a poll... if you will, for BYU fans, Would you rather
first 4 games are brutal... Utah, Tennessee, USC, Washington... 0-4 very possible... but...
vote on the poll...

I just kind of keep my mouth shut anymore. It’s not like I have anything to talk trash about lately.
I enjoy good natured fun in the rivalry. For several years my neighborhood played pranks on the other fan base. One night I’d stay up late and take glass markers/paints and write about BYU all over the windows of the Ute fans. Or I’d spray paint their grass. They’d retaliate in about the same measure. One year, another neighbor piled all the snow in the shape of a Y on a Ute fan’s front grass. It grew like that all summer. It was the prank that kept giving. That was fun. Now they’ve all moved away.
I’m still always up for light hearted jabs at the mouth breathing Ute fans, or a light wager. But I’m not going to get ugly.

I just saw a tease about some Utah throwbacks that I think go as far back as the 50’s or 60’s. They’ve got the silver pants, and silver helmets with red, interlocking U’s. They’re gonna look a lot like Ohio State and I’m 500% ok with that.

Normally, Utah wouldn’t bust these out for a road opener, but considering there’s no real home field advantage in this rivalry (just my opinion), I could see Utah taking the field in Provo wearing these things of absolute and untainted beauty.

In fact, on August 29th, if BYU players see the Ute players warming up in these uni’s, they should probably refuse to take the field due to the fact that 54-10 is about to go down again.

LOL words from the champ. "I understand that many people get joy from being dicks to one another."

Love BYU in this game. That said, I don’t know a ton about either team other than what I’ve read here.

Should I love the U more?

Never drinking again btw.

If you listen to the media then you should definitely love the U more. Favorites to win the pac12 and even hear a few things about a national championship.
Yesterday i even heard a national media guy say that utahs starting qb is top 10 in the country.
Top 10 qb, surefire nfl draft pick at running back, best d-line in the country. They should be the team you love more for someone with no bias.

By love the U more, I meant love the Under more. I say that because Utah’s d is supposed to be their best ever. And iirc without looking back in this thread, BYU’s is pretty good too.

The OU is 48.5.

I mean does anyone see the score being higher than that if Utah’s d is so good?

27-24 seems too high if UoU’s d is as good as you guys say.

I would take the under
