El Paso Shooting

Trump's SS. He's emboldening this kind of behavior from police, but it really got worse starting with the Patriot Act. Police don't operate under "To Serve And Protect" anymore. There are a ton of good cops still but there are a lot more bad cops than there used to be. I've interacted with police enough to know that 1/4 of my interactions with police have been with douchebags who aren't fit to wear the badge.

A big part of the problem is we get what we pay for.

Who would want this terrible paying job with benefits that are continually slashed?

I really hope these representatives have good security. This commentary does nothing constructive. We’ve already seen what his rhetoric has done at campaign rallies, bombers living in white vans, and racist young males with way too easy access to guns.

Yet calling the POTUS a white supremacists and nearly every name in the book for 3 straight years is acceptable.

People sure can dish it yet get triggered when it's dished back.

And how have you interacted with police? How many times? Inquiring minds want to know.

Trump really tweeted that? Holy **** he is a clueless *******.
"They hate Israel and all Jewish people"
Wtf. Have they said that?

Tons of times. Never arrested though. I've had a lot of interactions geting pulled over for speeding(only about 4 tickets total though). Several moving violations, some total BS. A bunch of interactions with friends, party's, etc. A bunch of interactions with OHV cops. I respect the job cops do immensely and there are a lot of damn fine cops. But lately it seems like half of them are power-tripping schmucks.

Worst was a cop trying to coerce me into a confession of street racing(for about 30 minutes in the back seat of his cruiser) when the guy behind me got in a head-on in the canyon. ****ing dude thought he was solving the OJ murders, and wouldn't take the truth for an answer. I was ahead of the accident victim in a sports car and he was in a sports car so they figured street-racing. I didn't stop when the crash happened because I figured I needed to get into cell reception to call 911 ASAP.

A couple of stories from the incident are below. Note my car is black and I came back down canyon after calling 911 and stopped to talk to police.

There were hundreds of comments to the story and most of them wanted to lynch me without knowing anything of what really happened. It was reaffirmation that you can't necessarily form a solid opinion based on a news article.

Wow, that's quite an experience, str8line.

Almost every news story that I've known the behind-the-scenes info on has had many inaccuracies. It's frustrating to have to rely on news sources for accurate information. While I realize are they are doing their best (usually), there is so much that is incorrect or based on personal bias.

The news report was very good but a few of the quoted remarks from the police sent people into a tizzy. A lot of high-horsing going on. I was more nervous than I've ever been that the dad and son might die and they'd try to pin it on me with circumstantial evidence. Of course I was super concerned for them too.

During the 50's and 60's, American TV was replete with good guys and bad guys, and the guns they loved...

Good guy with gun shoots bad guy with gun....

Bad guy with gun shoots good guy with gun...

Further proof that I’m actually dead and have been placed into the bad place. I have no idea how many times I’ve figured this out and have had my mind erased. But I’m almost certain I’m in the bad place no matter how many times I eat frozen yogurt from Menchies:

Certainly, our country isn’t this stupid, right?

Forgot to post this yesterday when I read it:

Pretty incredible. House republicans know right wing terrorism is on the rise but refuse to do anything about it because doing so would anger the president and the republican base.

I love that show. Cant wait for the next season.

Funny thing is that i think the house republicans are wrong to think it would anger the republican base... if they could just get trump on board. I mean I think that if tomorrow trump suddenly was pro choice and wanted to ban guns and allow open boarders then his base would suddenly feel the same way.

I mean there was a time when conservative republicans were against spending and worried about the budget and cared about christian values. Then trump stopped caring about those things and his base immediately stopped caring about them as well. Blindly following trump is the #1 characteristic of his base. Doesnt matter what it is that trump does or believes in.

No dude. I'm sorry but the second amendment and abortion are two of the main reasons I lean right. Honest to God. Abortion is a touchy subject so I dont want to get into it but I will never change my opinion about it. Same for the 2nd Amendment.

Give me and many others a left candidate that 100% is behind gun ownership and mutual on abortion and watch the votes change. As far as borders? The left are the ones who have completely flopped their stance. Obama was for it, Hillary and Biden voted for barriers, Chuck and Nancy were also for border control before Trump. We don't need a wall but border protection is huge to many. To scoff it off as white nationalism(some do) is pushing many moderates right, myself included. We want a reason to not vote Trump but these important things are being ignored and vilified by a majority of the left.

The right ****ing sucks right now. After that baboon Trump, the faces I see are Cruz and Chris Christie burned into my skull. It's actually quite embarrassing. To me though the left has completely lost its way. You have socialist, you have far left, and when push comes to shove a platform that mainly consist of "not Trump".

The left needs to chill and they will beat Trump. If they don't and continue down this path. Trump wins.

Off thread topic but viable to said post.

I was actually talking about Trump's base which I don't really include you in fwiw

I wonder what would happen if the word socialism didn't exist and was replaced with something else.
Like instead of "I don't like those socialists"
It was " I don't like those people who want better healthcare, affordable college, people to be treated equally, and clean air/oceans"

Does it look different to people or have different meaning?

This is an insightful read, profiling 9 Hispanic Americans, and how the El Paso massacre has changed their lives.

'It's real. It's violent': After El Paso, Latinos across America live in fear
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...shooting-latino-hispanic-reaction/2027932001/

The mass shooting in El Paso was one of the deadliest hate crimes in American history against Latinos.
The shooter left a manifesto with anti-Hispanic and anti-immigrant sentiment.

Now, the fear among Latino people is palpable.

Latinos are calling this a turning point. The shooting, they say, has peeled back the hate behind words they've tried to ignore. It has sliced open the racism many grew up learning to navigate.

How do you turn the other cheek, they wonder, when the weapon is loaded with bullets?

The killing of 22 people in a border city has left them fearful of living in their own country: because of the brown color of their skin, because they speak Spanish or because of where they or their families were born.

Dads are telling their daughters, “Por favor, cuidase, mija,” pleading with them to be careful at work, keep quiet, have an exit plan. School is starting and along with it, some mothers are worrying if they should let their children speak Spanish at school, let them walk to class alone. Friends are telling their amigas, the ones who speak Spanish with an accent, the ones who are darker, who are both immigrant and Latino: Be aware of your surroundings.

Here, Latino and Latina voices from across America tell us in their own words what it is to live in fear.
