Trib Article: Hayward and Burks make quick connection

Ah.

Well I don't know what universe some of y'all are living in, but there's plenty of room for more friends.

Personally, I thought the post you're having so much trouble understanding was extremely clever, but maybe that's because BFFdom is often treated as an all important issue in my very dramatic nine year old daughter's life. So maybe you're right. You simply don't know the universe some of us are living in. Still, I'd think a cowardly lion would be all over this stuff. You must be an imposter.

I can't thank you enough for pasting this order form into your message. Look for me in the lower bowl next year. I have a feeling I'm going to be pretty easy to spot. I'll be the only guy in the arena whose swaddled head to toe in luxurious sky blue terrycloth.

Burks is not a PG and Sap is not a SF. They can both play those positions during spot minutes, but they are not suited to play big minutes at those spots.

Burks is a SG who can pass well, meaning he can play spot minutes at SG. Jordan,Kobe,Wade, and many other SG's could do this, doesn't mean they should be starting PG's.

Sap is a small PF who has enough quickness to play SF based on matchups. Against faster SF's he would be at a huge disadvantage.

Of course no player has ever been successful playing a different position in the NBA than the position he played in college right? Then according to your great wisdom Hayward should never be considered as a full time shooting guard, because he was a small forward in college, and Favors should never get a chance at center because he has always played power forward right. I hope Hayward becomes a border line all-star at shooting guard and Favors becomes the starting center for the Jazz several years from now, then you can put that in your pipe and smoke it. Tell me genius if we did not have Jefferson or Millsap and had to play Favors and Kanter next year who would play center and who would play power forward for the Jazz based on their current skill set?

Once you've gone "The Corvette", you don't go back.

Wow. 1st of all, there aren't that many differences between SG or SF. What you are asking Burks and Sap to do is play two widely different positions. As a PG you are asked to defend lightning quick players, bring the ball up the court, initiate the offense, look for others, etc. There are a lot of responsibilities PG's have to handle, which would take away from Burks' best attributes.

For Millsap, he would have to play out on the perimeter. Yes he can shoots well for a PF, but with quicker defenders closing out on him will he be as good? Also, he would be away from the basket, where he thrives on offensive rebounds (you can't crash the boards as hard as SF because you have to worry about getting back on defense) and he would be a liability guarding more athletic SF's. Favors can play PF or C because he is a physical and athletic freak. Millsap is not.

Wow forget Millsap as he was just a part of what I was hoping for, and was the lest likely to be able to play the position. You have already admitted that Favors could play center, so that part you agree with. Now lets talk about Burks. What does a point guard need to be able to do?
Lets see dribble well - check
Pass well - they say he can so check
Break down defenses by being able to get to the basket - check
Being able to guard super quick point guards - Well move D'Will to shooting guard because he sure as heck could not, so that is not a valid point. Would most point guards be able to guard Burks if he post them up on the offensive end? Nope, he would have the height advantage on most point guards. So tell me again why Burks could not transition over time to point guard again?

What? You are an idiot. How many 6'6 college SG made the transition to PG in the NBA? Huh? Burks is not the 1st tall SG who can dribble and pass. If it was as easy as you say it is to take advantage over smaller players why haven't other players made the transition?

I watched Burks in college and the first thing that came to my mind is this guy could play PG. Now is he a starting PG right now or in the future, no. However, I think he has the ability to play some minutes at the PG and I think people will be surprised by his passing.

Agreed. I said he could play spot minutes at PG coming off the bench, nothing major, just like a few minutes here and there.

Also, I thought Deron Williams was one of the better defenders at starting PG in the league. He just had Boozer,Okur,Millsap,Jefferson, etc. as interior and pick'n'roll defenders. Gary Payton couldn't shut anyone down with those guys as his help.

He did a good job against bigger PGs and even some SGs like Brandon Roy, but the quick ones ate him alive.
