9/3 Games thread US

Fool

I think it’s quite the opposite. If Donovan could just be given the ball to run things during this it would benefit team USA and him. No one knows who’s in charge. It’s pass it, have no plan, then just drive in or jack a shot with no plan with Team USA. There’s just little to no chemistry and little to no method to what they’re doing. Give one guy the ball and let him be the guy. Donovan would do well but I feel like he never gets enough rhythm to be very successful. Too much passing that ends up with iso’s with no plan. I’m not sure it’s going to get better before they lose either. Unless Donovan can get into the 20 ppg category I honestly think Team USA will not do well from here on out.
Team USA usually cause they're so more athletic than they win just cause of that. Saying that though they grow up being all about themselves. They want to be the man. And not worry about team first. Saying that though I believe Donovan is all about the team first. Though some of others on that team not so much.

Look can everyone agree though. That Rudy is the jazz best player.
I think most of us believe that, but I think the reasons we believe that are probably much different than the reason why you believe that.

Come again?

looks like you after a night on the town

Dude ive quit smoking, back to working out daily and i swear i feel worse than ever, like i've been seduced every morning by a horse. Least when i was smoking and constantly hungover i knew why i felt like ****, **** i was proud of it.

I think I've said this before, but I really haven't been impressed by Kemba Walker's defense. Opposing point guards can pretty much get where they want and do what they want with little resistance. It's part of the reason USA hasn't been able to guard the pick and roll.

On Turkey's final possession today, Pop pulled Kemba out of the lineup to improve the defense, probably because he wasn't doing a good job of staying with Turkey's PG. Pops put in a lineup of Mitchell/Smart/White/Barnes/Middleton.

Yeah, Kemba’s been decent offensively but his defense is to be desired. I also don’t love him next to Donovan tbh.

I’m glad we have Conley. Still think Donovan is the team’s PG of the future. Would love to see what a lineup of Mitchell, O’Neale, Ingles, Bogdanovich and Gobert could do.
Agreed. I feel like Donovan is so much more comfortable with a higher usage rate. He struggles to gain a rhythm and good feel for the game playing off the ball IMO, which is what’s happening right now with team USA. He’s a great spot up shooter sure but it just feels like Donovan is capable of so much more when he has the ball in his hands kind of running things.

As a side note, not a lot of successful drives by Donovan. I do hope he doesn’t fall too in love with mid range jumps hits and floaters. I realize there hasn’t been much space, but there wasn’t his first two seasons either and he just hasn’t been near as effective getting to the rim it seems like.

It seems like Turkey and USA might just meet again this year when we look at the Group Stages 1 and 2:

This is our group E in the first round:

And this is the stacking of round 2:

So if Turkey beats Czechia, we can see a rematch.

Crazy, I saw Turkey and USA meeting again in a group stage again in my dream, then opened up the FIBA site to check and saw this. Before checking I did not know that the 2nd round would be group stage.

Meh. Remember the offense was not as good with him at PG last season even tho his numbers were good

Actually - and please correct me if I'm wrong - it's kind of a modified group stage. Results from Stage 1 carry over and there are only 2 games for each team. Each team faces the teams they didn't play in the first group stage. E1 (likely USA) plays F2 (likely Greece) on Sept 7th and then E1 (likely USA) plays F1 (likely Brazil) on Sept 9th. E1 and E2 don't play each other again in the 2nd round. And from what I can tell from the Bracket and game schedules, they'd only play each other if both made it to the Finals.

Here is where I'm looking. And, again, please correct me if I've misread the schedules or brackets.

Thanks for the heads up. Honestly I have no idea which way it is. I just thought it was a straight group formula. I will check it ASAP.
