What's new

2020 Presidential election

Did anybody see Colbert’s interview of Mayor Pete last night? He’s so much smarter, more nimble, and genuine than Joe. It isn’t even close.

(I’m not endorsing Pete, btw. Or at least not yet.)

I haven't seen it, but there seems to be (at least to me) a bunch of dem candidates that are much more likeable than Biden or Warren that I wish would have a true chance.

I'm too lazy to do my research, but is there a vid you would recommend of her's?
I’m not a big video hound. Most of what I know about her comes from reporting on her background. If you’re looking for someone with chops on the causes and consequences of the 2008 recession, then she’s your guy. She knows the debt problem as well as any American out there. That alone pretty much qualifies her for the highest public office, imo. But she also has a good legislative sense, I think. And, it seems that people like working for her.

For transparency in these discussions:

I’ve been a monthly contributor to Bernie’s campaign(s) since 2016. I contribute because I know that his message is pulling the conversation in this country in the right directions. He’s been right about the causes of wealth inequality, the cultural consequences of grow-or-die capitalism, the need to do something ****ing drastic for the environment, student debt, health care problems, etc. The dude has been talking about most of those things for 30 straight years.

If he doesn’t win, I won’t feel like I’ve wasted a single dollar.

Fair enough, thanks. Last time around I remember hoping she would get the nomination over Clinton. Now I find myself rooting for Gabbard and Yang over Warren LOL.

I need to look into Yang more. The field has been so crowded, and I’ve been doing the Bernie thing while it gets winnowed down. But he seems worth a gander.

Warren is a serious candidate by every standard. When I looked deeper into her background, it was impossible not to be impressed.

Nuanced discussion aside, I think this turns into another RvD election and the Dunkster wins again.

Good enough that I’m not changing my voting decision with this in mind.
If he is the Democrat nominee, he will have my vote as well. I did stand in line for 3 hours to vote for him in the Utah caucus in 2016 after all.

I just wish he and Warren were younger.

The Dunkster is a nickname for Trump? If so, that’s new to me.

Trumps path/odds to re-election are historically slim/bad. There’s good reason for optimism.

Agreed.
She is my favorite of the Democrats with a chance at the nomination.

I really had to do a 180 with her. The Native American thing really bothered me. It still does. But I’m not one of the Lefties who’s getting overly concerned with purity tests. That bothers me worse.

Forgiveness is an important political skill, and I’ve extended it toward her in this instance. And, in the end, I think Debt is the biggest issue in the American economic-political landscape, so her voice is critical.

It would be interesting to see how Warren would fill out a cabinet and what her executive leadership vibe would be. Her policies would require very deft movements and vote-gathering in both chambers of Congress. Eventually, someone on the Left is going to find a time and a way to appeal to people on the Right who want to see some investments in their communities.
