Poor Jazz Roster Construction

Pretty sure I read somewhere recently that the Grizzlies weren't interested in Exum, either at the deadline or this summer.

... but Jeff has gotten a bad rap because everyone always wanted more from him.

He was picked 5th overall, and people expect to get a good player at five.

Yeah, I listened to Dennis Lindsey on with Spence Checketts last week and he said that Memphis never asked for Exum and the Jazz never offered him. He didn't come right out and say that the Jazz would have been willing to part with Exum if Memphis would've wanted him, but I got the felling they would've been willing.

The whole interview was pretty good, he talks about Dante about 32 minutes in.

Ha! I think Jeff may have lived up to his billing as the #5 pick doe... Dante has not.

I can live with a failed high pick... he was the guy I would have picked at the time... part of why he failed was injuries which can happen to anyone... it's doubling and tripling down rather than moving on which makes the experiment more tragic.

I'm pretty sure I heard Zach Lowe making a nameless reference to the Utah Dante situation in his podcast with Epstein... go check it out and tell me I'm wrong... it was around 28 minutes... they spoke of the sunk cost fallacy.

If the Jazz moved Dante and if Conley opted out (to sign a longer term deal at less than 35M)… they could sign Conley to a 25Mish deal and have $20M in space to add to the roster in FA... but the FA list for 2020 is awful. I'm guessing we opt to extend Royce at some point during the season and his low caphold is key.

The opportunity cost to keep Dante at this point is lower than it has been last couple years... I'm cool with seeing what the hell he has, but skeptical he gives us anything worth his contract value.

Right... was getting at it by saying he needs to play well enough (in camp and preseason) that he takes Tony’s spot. If they don’t love what Mudiay is doing I could see them waiving him... he’d likely be picked up and we’d be on the hook for none of his salary....

But yeah Howard needs to be really good for any of that to happen... otherwise he’s a Star or likely headed back to Europe.
He aint taking Tony's spot.

It's probably between him and Kidd. Those are the only two non-guaranteed guys. Maybe it's NWG though.

I'm good with the roster construction at this point. I'm more than good, I think this is a much better roster than I expected before the off-season started.

I also don't think we are one of the most "caucasian non hispanic" rosters in the NBA this year.

I miscounted... I thought NWG was #15 and Kidd and Howard were 50k guarantee guys... he was #14... my bad.

Per basketball reference Kidd has a 250k guarantee and Howard has a 50k guarantee. So it’s Howard or Kidd for #15 unless someone else awesome became available.

NWG and TB will be on the roster. I wonder what the FO does on TBs option... obviously I’d decline but it doesn’t make much sense in my mind to decline the option and keep him this year.

I just listened and I think you're probably right, I've been racking my and can't really think of anyone that fit's the description Lowe gave besides Dante and the Jazz. I'm pretty surprised Dante still has any trade value left at this point.

Hard to believe Exum is still a Jazz player. If somehow the Jazz get make this a plus situation at one point, hats off to them.

U talk alot of garbage. He said Dante was never going to be in the deal in both sides. Cause U don't like Dante U like to twist words.

Can everyone just shut the **** up with negative talk about dante And support the guy. He's had countless injuries and lots of bad luck.

I usually would say yes but I can't since you said it, sorry dweeb.

You dont really help the cause by being annoying and dumb. You a bad representative of Dante

Can someone tell me where from the bench are they gonna get regular scoring/shot creating? Exum? hah. Mudiay? yikes. Royce/Jingles - not really their thing. Green/Niang - I can't rely on either and don't create for themselves. Davis? He's not even a very good P/R player.

It's something that gives validity to David Locke's suggestion that Bojan should sit early, and come back in to lead the second unit when Mitchell/Conley sit.

I think you answered your own question. Bojan's minutes will likely be staggered so that he can play with the second unit and be the go to guy.

To me this is far from ideal. Again I just see holes here in the roster (mostly at PG and PF, and don't expect the FO to fill them unless they're below 5th place by February 1st.
