What's new

James Gunn

Yeah, it can be conflicting, but I think we should give a special space to our comedians to challenge us.

Innovation is incredibly important to comedy, and it comes with risks to be sure. I'm not sure how reenacting the same old Chinese stereotypes we've seen for a hundred years is either challenging or particularly innovative.

Sure, no on is saying comics can't say wherever they want. There's an audience out there for anything. But it's also true that audiences can and should make their voices heard about how they feel about it, and potential employers can take that into account when it comes to who they decide to give millions of dollars to. Some, like Netflix, are free and welcome to throw their money at Bill Burr or Dave Chappelle and that's fine, it's their money. And SNL can decide not to hire Shane Gills, again, it's their call.

I just disagree that there's this massive problem with "woke" people censoring comics, when the evidence demonstrates that even "problematic" comics are doing just fine, and are enjoying financial and professional success most of us couldn't even dream of.
If you disagree with woke people censoring comics, why did SNL decide to hire an extremely talented person (it's SNL) only to fire him because of "woke" comments.

I listened to his comments. They were racists. They were ignorant. They were ignorant racist. He was trying to be funny, not racist.

You woke ****s made this a negative not a positive. Smdh...

I feel bad for that guy. I really do.

I'm not sure I agree that he is in fact "extremely talented."

At risk of repeating myself, attempting to be funny doesn't automatically shield you from being racist.

And yeah, you're totally right. It's the people calling out bigotry that turned this whole thing negative. The comic who made the joke bears absolutely no responsibility for what he said at all, got it.

Lmao, how am I making these rules up?

By saying there should be different expectations for the behavior of children and adults? I'm genuinely baffled.

I'll stop being a judgmental douche as soon as you do, you've cast plenty of judgment here as well.

Children or adults, Jeong, Smollett or white? Dude, your opinions are based on leftists ideologies for the most part.

In this case, the guy said racist ****. I listened to it. It was ignorant. You're for destroying his dream. I'm for education.

I do cast judgment, you cast harder.

I admit when I'm wrong. I can apologize too. Can you?

So you think SNL hires non extremely talented people? It's like the argument I had with NAOS earlier, you're ******** on other's talents based on yours? What are yours?

I agree, being funny doesn't mean you can be racist. Making racial jokes doesn't mean others are capable of humor (in your case) too.

The comic is a comedian. If you're a woke, sensitive cupcake, stop listening. He's making light of serious ****. Why do you think comics struggle with depression? They make levity out of dark **** and ****s like you judge them.

Do you, honest question, know what being numb, checked out and depressed means?

Comics do.

I'm going to break this down as simply as I can for you because you seem to be having a really hard time grasping what I'm actually saying here.

I already I admitted I was wrong about Smollet, he was lying, and I believed him.

Children should not be held to the same expectations of behavior as adults, who presumably know better.

Jeong's tweets, when read in context, were satirizing the kind of vitriol she had been subjected to on twitter. Highlighting the absurdity of bigotry, not so different from many of the skits on Chappelle's Show. If you read them as though they were meant for a general audience, and not directed to those she was being harassed by its easy to see them as bigoted.

I'm not for "destroying" anyone's dream. It's unfortunate for Gillis that his very actions led him to ultimately not get hired.

FWIW I have absolutely suffered from depression, and know all to well how helpful dark comedy can be as an outlet. Racist comedy? Not so much.

You keep trying to make this personal, and I've grown tired of being insulted, so I'm going to go ahead and check out.

Since you're having a really hard time with this, Jeong's tweets were bitter, racist, hateful and a cry for education.

The SNL guy was trying to be funny.

Btw, for what it's worth, I appreciate @Zombie admitting he was wrong about Smollett.

I know I'm wrong a lot, admit it sometimes and see others admit it rarely.

Props to him, as different as we think.

Yeah, no problem with this firing. I listened through the podcast where he referenced Yang, and what I got was mediocre at best humor with a not so small smattering of offensive epithets. SNL can do better and obviously they agreed.

Twitter is making me giggle.

Exactly nobody that was upset about the SNL dude is going to say anything about Trudeau.

Its like when the Liberals were adamant that the people associated with Epstein be revealed. OK, here are the court documents that name two prominent Democrats documented as having sex with underage girls at Epstein's manor. Liberals: "Well, I guess he's dead, so we can move on. . ." Those dudes have totally escaped the outrage mob. How the Hell does THAT work? I mean if the standard of evidence is the bullcrap hearsay they want to attach to Kavanagh, naming people in a previously sealed court document within the statute of limitations should be ironclad, no?

I don't think any liberal said that about Epstein on Jazzfanz. Everyone condemned him.

Strangely every person on my Twitter feed who had something to say about Trudeau was criticizing him from the left.

Also plenty of leftists (myself included) are still very curious about getting to the bottom of the Epstein saga

You should maybe spend more talking speaking to leftists instead of just imagining what they think about things.

Except, they have. Except,l instead of Trudeau insisting that he was just being edgy, he said it was stupid of him.

Only two? Which two do you mean?

The liberals I read have been just as harsh on the liberals associated with Epstein as they have on anyone. Perhaps, instead of reading conservative blogs that complain about what liberals say, you should try reading what liberals actually say?
