What's new

The official: Bogey is the best offensive player the Jazz have.

I thought the same thing. I have been amazed at how good bogey is at driving and finishing over bigger players. He has quite a knack for driving and finishing.

If you paid closer attention, you'd realize he's a pretty one dimensional driver. If the other team decides to do a more detailed scouting report on Bogey, they can effectively take this option away from us. In fact, this was apparent as recent as our home game loss to Minnesota.

But when Bogey is taking catch and shoot threes like he did this last game, that is a lot more difficult to stop.

He's been a great driver...

How are some of yall so bad at watching basketball?

Bojan is 30th in points generated off drives.

I had the same thought... WTF are people watching? On that curl drive he scores a ton... even when its defended well he has a little momentum and is big so he just goes over the shot blocker. I honestly think we should run that **** into the ground instead of so many pick and rolls.

I think people see balding white Euro and think he's a spot up shooting stiff... when he's actually a ****ing John Wick style assassin.

They can stop the Bogey curl but they have to give something up to do it... I'd venture to guess its the most effective play we run. If they drop to stop the drive it opens him up to step behind the screen and bang the three that you love... he's done that a little.

He's not one dimensional at all.

So it seems like you are saying that he was a poor driver in one game.
Ok, I can agree with that.

I just had a realization. Bojan is the Jazz player I most trust to not do something dumb when he has the ball... or maybe Royce (because he never does anything with it).
He rarely takes bad shots or make careless passes. He just seems to know what to do and isn't going to be hurried into many mistakes.

Well, I've watched most the games this season and when I've noticed Bogey drive the ball he just barrels to the rim at one speed and in a straight line. I don't recall him doing a cross over, step back, spin move, hesitation, or any other kind of more intricate footwork. This is why I think Mitchell is our best offensive player when he is making the right decisions.

Maybe Bogey has that in the bag also, but he hasn't shown it. Having Bogey be a 3 point shooter first, ball handler second like yesterday is where I think he is best utilized.

Doesn’t really matter how he gets there... he gets there and he finishes... takes 25% of his shots at the rim and finishes 73.5%... his attempts at the rim are down a little.

his midrange shooting has been bad this year but he’s been solid there in years past and gets a lot of clean looks that should go down more often.

He may not be our best offensive player because there is a lot to that type of statement... he is likely our best shot maker though... he’s been tremendous.

One thing Mitchell can learn from Bogey - no ****ing floaters. Bojan either shooting jumpers or takes it hard to the rack. Mitchell should adopt the same habbits.

If Bogey never drives and just hangs out at the 3pt line, that makes him much easier to defend. Now if a defender is thinking about closing at full speed, they will slow down because there is a chance he will just drive by them for a layup or dunk. It's not smart to stop driving.

I also think that he's smart in his drives, he doesn't have to be fancy or do spin moves and crossovers. He makes slight adjustments to angles and he does use hesitation to create space. He's crafty and athletic enough to get things done. To say he should stop driving is not good advice.

Keep shooting, keep driving, keep winning.

I don’t think he should stop driving (he’s good at it), I just think he should let it fly a little more when he’s got space. Probably a third of those drives he’s open enough to be hitting at least 40%.

As soon as Mitchell becomes 6'9....

Guards have to take floates. He just has to take better ones.
floaters are low percentage shot. Mitchell's mid range jumper is money, he should just stick to that. Have you seen Michael Jordan ever take floaters?

I know Mitchell is trying to add the floater to his game, but honestly I think it's something he should use very rarely. His middy jumper is cash and his snatchback jumper is nasty. Those should be the midrange go-to's for him. That's enough to force the defense to play him tight enough where he can get to the rim basically at will for dunks or those under hand scoops he's really good at.
