Republicans are playing this brilliantly. The American people have lives. They don’t care enough about this to take time to carefully study the situation. So republicans feed simple easy to swallow propaganda bites.

Dems live life in nuance but republicans tap into emotions.

I don’t see the Dems running a smart campaign against trump.

really? Are Americans really so stupid? Are our attention spans really so short? I’m not so sure. Maybe among Trump’s stupid base. But I (hope) you’re not right about the majority of Americans.

Barr has told associates he disagrees with the Justice Department’s inspector general on one of the key findings in an upcoming report — that the FBI had enough information in July 2016 to justify launching an investigation into members of the Trump campaign, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Justice Department’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, is due to release his long-awaited findings in a week, but behind the scenes at the Justice Department, disagreement has surfaced about one of Horowitz’s central conclusions on the origins of the Russia investigation. The discord could be the prelude to a major fissure within federal law enforcement on the controversial question of investigating a presidential campaign.

Barr has not been swayed by Horowitz’s rationale for concluding that the FBI had sufficient basis to open an investigation on July 31, 2016, these people said.

Barr’s public defenses of President Trump, including his assertion that intelligence agents spied on the Trump campaign, have led Democrats to accuse him of acting like the president’s personal attorney and eroding the independence of the Justice Department. But Trump and his Republican allies have cheered Barr’s skepticism of the Russia investigation.

It’s not yet clear how Barr plans to make his objection to Horowitz’s conclusion known. The inspector general report, currently in draft form, is being finalized after input from various witnesses and offices that were scrutinized by the inspector general. Barr or a senior Justice Department official could submit a formal letter as part of that process, which would then be included in the final report. It is standard practice for every inspector general report to include a written response from the department. Barr could forgo a written rebuttal on that specific point and just publicly state his concerns.

This doesn't really solve anything, but, at times like this in the history of a nation, there will be people who see clearly what is happening while it is happening, and there are many more people who are sleepwalking through their nation's history, and do not see or understand what is happening "before their very eyes" so to speak. The former, like yourself, like myself, will understandably be incredulous that something that seems so self evident, so easy to recognize, is not seen clearly by all citizens.

Look at the crowds at Trump's rallies. I won't say they are somehow inherently evil, they are as human as myself. But, these are the people who follow authoritarians like the Pied Piper. Right off a cliff if that is where he leads. These are the people, concerning whom their children and grandchildren will one day say "how could you do it? How could you support and follow such a man? Did you not learn anything from history?" They are quite unable to understand what they are doing.

My understanding is that AG Barr will have more control over how the conclusions of the Durham report are presented. We have seen, most regrettably, the control he was able to exert over the Mueller Report. It was brilliant, in that it successfully conditioned many Americans, Trump supporters all, to actually believe Mueller found "no collusion, no obstruction".

I suspect he will present the Durham Report to America in the same way, designed to please Trump, and therefore Trump's supporters. Barr and Durham have globe trotted together, Barr no doubt in search of the Deep State conspiracy to take down Trump. A conspiracy that did not exist. But Trump and Barr are not about truth. They are about increasing the power of the imperial presidency. Barr will himself not be happy until the United States is an elective monarchy.

And still the sheep will bleat and cheer if they could but own the liberals, the United States and democracy be damned.

True, but that's the IG Horowitz report. There are 2 different reports. The Horowitz Report, which Barr apparently disagrees with, is due to be official released on 12/9. I was referring to the as yet to be released Durham Report. My understanding there is that he will have more control over how the Durham Report is presented, once it is ready to be released. It is this report regarding which AG Barr has been personally involved, traveling with Durham to interview Italian officials, for example. It is very unusual to see an AG so personally, and directly involved, in a investigation he launched. If he has more control over how the conclusions are presented, I must believe he will, as with Mueller, do so in a way that pleases dear leader.

This is hardly a news flash, but it was revealing, (and depressing if one cares about our democracy), to see Sen. Kennedy describe how the Republican defense of Trump will involve adopting the fictional account generated by Trump's paranoid possessed mind. Pretty sad to see one of our two major parties decide to rewrite history, to present a fictional account that has no basis in fact as an integral part of their counterattack against the impeachment
inquiry. Creating a fake history and presenting it as truth to the American people. They should be ashamed to do such a thing, and while history will so judge their strategy as shameful, apparently they can feel no shame themselves during their own lifetimes.
