2020 NBA trade deadline discussion

We're on the same page. Cy swears he is god awful but I can't really say. I guess I have irrational hopes for him since he's always played in completely dysfunctional environments and I think he's the type where he just turns up what's happening around him, including the suck.
He's pretty bad... slow footed and doesn't protect the rim. He might try harder in a better environment. Mudiay has been world's better than he was in the past. Portis has some tools but he could be Kanteresque in the playoffs. He would do good things for us offensively though.

Agreed. He reminds me of Flavor Flav. Had he been with some ********, Flave would’ve crashed and burned like a loser. Instead, he was with Chuck D, and it brought the best out of him, Flave only really crashing and burning when Public Enemy was no longer relevant.

Plus Portis wanted to play for us this past summer, maybe like in a Mudiay way, knowing we can get the best out of him.

Two of Augustin/Ross/Aminu for Exum and Davis would solve a lot of our problems. Not sure if we can even trade for Aminu or how long he’ll be out (I see indefinitely online) but getting two legit basketball players like them would be nice.

I think maybe... maybe... Atlanta might have interest in Exum... they have no backup pg right now and if Exum became the player some thought he might then he'd be an interesting fit with Trae. They could have some interest in Bradley too... took a flyer on Len and he was good for them last year, but has struggled this year. Atlanta has like $70M in cap space next year... so cutting into that by 12M for a couple flyers doesn't really hurt them too much... I don't think there will be a lot of salary dumps so overpays on one year deals may end up being their play...

So maybe we get some three-way action Atlanta can send Crabbe or Turner to NY... we send Exum and Bradley to Atlanta... Portis to Utah... we likely send a second rounder to both teams for their trouble.

I could see Portis being really motivated once he got here since he has a team option he'd like his team to pickup for next year.

I’d be down for Exum for Thaddeus Young.

He’d fix many of our defensive issues on the bench, and improving our scoring there and depth overall.

What do we need most?

An upgrade at the 4?
Upgrade at the backup 1?
Upgrade at the backup 5?
Upgrade at the 4 without a doubt. We need more physicality in that position.

Another thing that could be positive about the Portis possibility is that when he's hot from the field he has a swag about him. Which I kinda feel like this team needs more of. Rudy is a leader through action. Mike is a nice guy. Bogey is quiet. Donovan gets animated but it's more of a confidence than anything. There are times that I feel we need someone who will act like "Me and this team are just better than you. We are.". Because that team swag can spread in a good way.

Fun fact, Portis was my guy in the 2015 draft. Crowder was in 2012. I'm feeling the vibes. LET'S GET THIS DONE KOC!
”Portis may have been your guy in 2015, and Crowder may have been your guy in 2012, but Exum was my guy in 2014... and also still my guy in 2019, so much so that I opted to trade your guy rather than my guy. So, if somebody wants him, they’ll have to pry him from my dead, lifeless fingers.”

-Dennis Lindsey, circa December 2019.

"When Mr. Lindsey leaves town for Christmas break I'm trading the effs out of Dante for Portis... I will show him pictures of his amazing hand pads and balance beam routine and he will get over it."

I don't think Dante is so much Lindsey's guy as much as he is the #5 pick of the 2014 NBA draft.

Detroit ready to dump Drummond and/or Blake Griffin?

they should at least wait till next year. by then we'll have an intriguing expiring in Mike Conley that may just be enough for us to land Blake Griffin, even though he hasn't been himself at all so far this season.

Mitchell Robinson is an up and coming big for the knicks. Could we land him
missed that window when we drafted Grayson Allen, who is currently shooting 41% and scored a -5.1 BPM for the Grizz(which is a MAJOR improvement from his -6.8 BPM when he played for us). and don't even mention other names who got drafted after him.
