I’m thinking we may be underselling Davis. Cy has been his biggest supporter and I think the metrics (maybe just defensive?) support Davis’ positive performance iirc what Cy has said.

I guess it’s sort of like the idea of putting Ben Wallace with a bunch of dimwits offensively. He would’ve seemed like a scrub. Okay, that’s hyperbole. But the point is with offensive talent around him, he can be free to rebound and play d as bestbhe can and his offensive shortcomings won’t be so glaring just like Ben’s weren’t with Chauncey, Rip, Tayshaun and Rasheed around him. Hell, and that was in a starting lineup that won it all. We just need Ed to play solid on half that time off the bench.
This is why I’ve been #TeamEdward. I mean, it’s like having a guy who’s really good and pick and roll, but nobody to actually do it with. Of course they’ll suck. Hell, look at Ingles.

- Jordan Clarkson is an obvious talent upgrade at guard on our bench. I question how well he fits in lineups involving our other expected bench players (Mudiay, Niang, Green). But he should fit well on the floor with anyone from the top six. I think he fits our offensive system.
Have you been paying attention?

defensively it won't work because quin's system requires a defensive anchor and ED ain't one. he's best at playing at a PF role next to Rudy but then his lack of offensive skill would still hurt us. i'd prefer someone like portis, who can shoot and rebound, in that role.

This has been the issue with our whole bench all season.

The strengths of Davis are rebounding and help defense. His offensive shortcomings have been highlighted because the other guys on our bench haven't been able to score. His ability to rebound has been minimized because he's played a lot of minutes next to Green and Niang who can't box out and rebound. His ability to help on defense has been minimized because Niang can't defend and Green/Mudiay both make too many mental mistakes on D.

The strengths of Green are in pick and roll finishing, finishing on the break, and isolation scoring. His defensive and rebounding shortcomings were highlighted playing next to Niang because Niang has the same weaknesses. His ability to finish a pick and roll wasn't utilized because Mudiay isn't really the best pick and roll passer. He didn't have a chance to finish fast breaks because none of Mudiay/Niang/Green/Davis create deflections or turnovers to start a break. His isolation offense wasn't ideal next to Mudiay.

The strength of Niang is three point shooting. In order to maximize his strength you need a well rounded bench that can do everything else on the floor. Our bench unit couldn't so all of his weaknesses get highlighted.

Our bench this season has been like we're trying to take puzzle pieces from 6 different puzzles and put together a coherent picture. Just doesn't work.
