The We Should Try Juwan Morgan as a Backup Center Thread

Ekpe is averaging 19/12 with 4.5 blocks in China right now. Why not him? Imagine him coming off the bench for 19/12. All teh chips.
Jimmer averaged like 75 pts a game in China... I do like Ekpe doe.

Go watch Morgan's G League highlights... ask yourself if Ed or Tony can do what he does in the pick and roll or dribble hand off game. I think he could be a switchy option that provides some space. Even if we got a more established vet like Bogut I could see Juwan being an option in certain matchups as the playoffs move along.

G league and NBA level are totally different.

There is a reason TB is the backup. The coaching staff knows who gives them the best chance. We can only arm chair GM and talk a lot of hypothetical **** but we are not in the gym with these guys everyday.

And you answered your own question, “his garbage time minutes have not been great” so lets throw him into a important game and pray he does well.
There are places between “garbage time” and “minutes in an important game” that could be explored.

I don’t think there are great options on the roster but I think TB is a dead-end in the playoffs.

This is basically what I’m hoping for (in the realm of possibility); get a vet off the scrap-heap AND develop a rangier player in the meantime.

Best chance to win is TB. Period. Like I said juwan is far from
Ready.

I’m in favor of trying him out and seeing if it’s viable, yes. From what I’ve seen in the NBA, Morgan doesn’t look ready but this is about the playoffs and I agree that Tony is headed for a buzzsaw in the postseason.

I’m really hoping something breaks for us on the market in the coming months but we need to be prepared for if it doesn’t.

In either case, the Jazz’s options behind Rudy are either obviously not anything resembling a legit big man or a wildly inexperienced player and that ain’t good.

In his garbage time minutes he has been stationed in the corner and not playing up top in the pick and roll like he was in the G League. He looked really solid defensively in his only non-garbage time minutes.

I am aware G League is a different game... TB never put up numbers as good as Morgan.

Coaching staffs play guys for a variety of reasons and miss on guys all the time... GSW found out about Draymond when David Lee got hurt... Tucker bounced around Europe and the NBA for a long time... Hell this year we played Ed and Jeff Green ahead of Niang and Bradley... they were in practice... they were less effective than the guys that replaced them. These guys don't full 5 on 5 practice as much as you think.

If you think about the things we want in a backup center I think Morgan has as good a chance as any to provide.

Gsw found out about dray way before lee got hurt. Cmon man. You dont JUST find out, you see **** in practice. I trust in snyder and the coaching staff a lot more than armchair GMs on forums.

Juwan is more skilled than Tony. Period. Exclamation Point!

Neither guy is ready... Juwan is slightly older and is new to the NBA but has a lot of college experience and was more effective in the G League than Tony ever was and it isn't close.

Juwan raw numbers in g league 17pts 8 rebounds 3 assists 2 blocks 2 steals in 27 minutes... per 36 that's 22.5/11/3.7/2.8/2.6 Then you look at the shooting splits... 70% overall 55% from 3 and 67 from the line.

Tony's numbers last year 13.5/7.1/1.3/.3/1.2 on 59%/26%/45% per36 19/10/2/.4/1.6

How come David Lee was starting over Draymond until he got hurt then... how could his coach who saw him every day in practice not see that playing him would unlock a fierce defense that helped create a dynasty.

He's too small, 6-7, maybe 6-8 230 -- even for a PF he's small. Houston can get away with Tucker only for brief periods and because he's money from corner 3's.
Draymond is 6-6

Tucker is thick so he can hold his postion in the post... its a huge advantage because he can shoot and switch on to perimeter guys. There is a chance Morgan can do that... not saying he will for sure... but there's a chance.
